Case Project 9-3

Frequent packet loss seems to be the reason for the windows size being so small. In the TCP protocol for
file transfer, if there was to be a packet loss, it exponentially reduces the window size assuming that
there is a congestion in the network. However, the window size is then increased linearly, but then again
packet loss occurs and it can reduce the window size exponentially.

Packet loss traffic will need to be detected through further investigation during monitoring. As the
packet drops at the interfaces along the network path, it needs to be determined. If there is a single
point of congestion, it needs to be rectified by more bandwidth or additional hardware. If any
component shows high packet error rates along the network path, then they should be tested and then
replaced if needed. This could include truck cables, interfaces, and ports.
