Abstract
The objective of this study was prepared to with temporary hair dye gel with herbal pigment.
Herbal colors used in this study were obtained from ethanol and water extracts of dried turmeric, heartwood
of sappan, henna, dried blue pea and dried rosella. The prepared formulation was subjected to physical
characterization and physical-chemistry assessment such as its pH and accelerated stability with heating and
freezing-thaw cycle. Herbal gels showed good stability after 2 4 hours in heating-cycle and after 2 4 hours in
the freezing-thaw cycle. In addition, they did not show difference in pH value except for dried rosella extract
gel. An efficiency of herbal hair gel and commercial hair gel in the gray-hair piece presented herbal hair gel
less efficiency than commercial gel. This result showed that temporary herbal dyes gel act through dye
deposition on cuticles, but commercial hair gel may penetrate a little into the cortex.
Introduction
Human scalp hair play an important role in social with pronounced differences between ages
and sexes. Hair coloring product are widely used both by men and women to alter natural hair color.
p-Phenylenediamine (PPD) are widely used in hair dye but their toxicity is not well established. The natural
dyes are known to offer non-toxic. There for, natural hair dyes formulations are based on non-toxic with
colorants being obtained from natural source. In this presenting context, colorant extract of from dried
turmeric, heartwood of sappan, henna, dried blue pea and dried rosella were prepared. The hair gel products
were controlled and developed including stability evaluation.
Methodology
1. Preparation of dye herbal.
The natural colorants were obtained from dried turmeric, heartwood of sappan, henna, dried
blue pea and dried rosella. Then, they were extracted as following methods.
1.1) Turmeric (10 g) was macerated in ethanol (100 ml) for three days. After evaporation, the
crude colorant extract was obtained.
1.2) Heartwood of sappan, henna, dried blue pea and dried rosella (10 g) were macerated in
ethanol (100 ml) for three days. After filtration, the aqueous solution of natural colorants was obtained.

3. Efficiency of hair dye gel and commercial gel
The grey hair was stained with herbal colorant. The stained hair was color recorded using
microscope as showed in Figure 2.
An efficiency of herbal hair gel and commercial hair gel in the gray-hair piece presented herbal hair
gel less efficiency the commercial gel. This result showed that temporary herbal dyes gel act through dye
