PaxeraViewer Quick User Guide
PaxeraViewer is a powerful viewer for all imaging modalities with great capabilities in
image/cine viewing, image processing, annotations, measurements, and printing on both PC and
DICOM printers. It is provided with input and output facilities to make it capable of working with
DICOM and non-DICOM image/cine files such as BMP, JPEG, AVI, and DICOM.

Using PaxeraViewer

Opening PaxeraViewer
• If you have the patient’s CD, insert it in the CD drive. The CD will auto-run and
PaxeraViewer will open automatically.

• If you are using the stand-alone version of the PaxeraViewer, double click the shortcut
on the desktop or click Start All Programs PaxeramedPaxeraViewer. The program
will open in full screen.

1. There are two ways to open the images:


a. If you have the study on a CD, make sure that the CD is inserted in the drive
then click “Open DICOM CD” button.
b. If the images are present on the hard drive, click “Open DICOM/non-DICOM
folder” button. Navigate to the folder with the images then click “Ok”.
2. The content will be displayed in the “Patient List”; this includes the patient’s name, the
study and the series in a hierarchy fashion.

Using the tools in the “Browsing Pane” you can do all of the following:

If browsing images:
1. Navigate through patients, studies or series by clicking the respective buttons.
2. Stepping forward or backward through the images by clicking “Previous Image” and
“Next Image” buttons.
3. View the images as ‘cine’ by clicking the “View Images as Cine” button. You can also set
the image step count by inserting the required number and adjusting the speed of the
cine by using the “Cine Rate” slider.

If browsing cines:
1. Navigate through patients, studies or series by clicking the respective buttons.
2. Play or pause the cine by pressing the Play/Pause button.
3. While in Pause mode, press the Next Frame or Previous Frame to view the cine frame by
frame.
4. Adjust the play speed by setting a value for the frame speed.
5. To navigate through many cines, click “Previous/Next Cine” buttons.

Manipulating the image in the viewing pane

o Left-click the mouse and drag to pan the image.


o Middle-click and drag up or down to zoom-in or zoom-out.
o Right-click and drag: a) up and down to adjust the window-level or b) right and left to
adjust the window-width (if manipulating non-grayscale or non-CT/MR images, this will
be replaced with contrast/brightness levels instead).
o Scroll the wheel to scroll backward and forward through the images in the current
series.

o You can switch between one and four-image views using the buttons “View One Image”
and “View Four Images”.
o To flip the image horizontally or vertically, use the “Flip Horizontal” and “Flip Vertical”
buttons.
o To rotate the image, click the “Rotate” button.
o You can zoom in or out using the zoom slider. If you want to keep the same zoom level
while traversing the series images, click the “Lock Zoom/Pan Adjustments” button. To
cancel this effect, re-click the same button.
o Two buttons are available so that you can get back quickly to one of two zoom levels: a)
The actual image size by clicking the “Actual Size”, or b) Fit the image to the screen by
clicking the “Fit to Screen” button.

In case of image viewing (grayscale DICOM)
o You can enter the WW/WL values manually (though it might be easier to use the mouse
in the Viewing pane as mentioned above). You can also use preset values at the bottom
(You can add and edit presets in the Settings option, see below).
o To lock the same WW/WL across the images in the series click the “Lock Image Window
or Color Adjustments” button. To cancel this effect, click it again.
o To invert the image colors (switch negative and positive), click the “Invert” button.
o To reset the image color adjustments, click the “Reset” button.

In case of cine viewing (color or non- DICOM)


o To adjust the contrast/brightness, click the “Brightness/Contrast” button then right-click
and drag on the image: vertically for contrast and horizontally for brightness.
o To adjust Gamma correction, click the “Gamma Correction” button then drag
horizontally to increase or decrease the gamma correction value.
o You can apply the color inversion by clicking the “Invert” button or reset the image to its
original state by clicking “Reset” button.

Annotations
o You can annotate the image by using the annotations tools. You can draw arrows, lines,
rectangles and ellipses using the respective buttons. To do this, click the button
pertaining to the required tool, then click and drag on the image to draw the shape.
o You can clear the shapes off the image by selecting the shape then clicking “clear the
selected measurement”. To clear all the shapes from the image, click the “Clear All”
button.

o To add text annotation, click the “Write Text” button. Insert the text then click ‘Ok’ to
accept (or ‘Cancel’ to discard). Click inside the viewing pane to position the text. You can
also click and drag the text to a different spot.

Measurements
o To measure a distance, click the “Measure Distance” button. Drag on the image and
calculation will appear automatically. You can edit the measurement by clicking on
either of its ends (the dots) and dragging again.
o To measure an angle, click the “Measure Angle” button. Click and drag to draw the first
line then release the mouse and click again then start drawing the second line. You can
edit the shape at any time by manipulating the dots on the shape.
o To measure a rectangular shape, click the “Measure Rectangle” button. Start drawing as
usual on the image.
o To measure an elliptic shape, click the “Measure Ellipse” button. Start drawing as usual
on the image.
o At any time you can clear the shapes as mentioned above.
o All the shapes including the measure texts can be relocated on the image by clicking and
dragging it to the new position.

Edit Tools

o Emboss: click this button to apply the emboss filter to the image.
o Draw Region: click this button to draw a rectangular region on the image. The area
inside this region can be manipulated separately from the rest of the image (e.g.
changing the WW/WL using the right click and drag technique).
o Undo: correct the last action.
o Copy image to clipboard: use it to copy the current image to the clipboard.
o Save current image/cine loop to a file: you can choose different formats from the dialog
box (bitmap, jpeg and avi in case of a cine view).
o Load image inset if found: this will display the image inset inside the series if available.

o Settings: is used do adjust PaxeraViewer various options; importantly the DICOM
settings for printing. This will be discussed next.
o Print: this function determines the various printing options available. Start by selecting
the number of images per page, then start adding the images to the group by clicking
“Store Images to Printer” (or remove images by clicking “Erase Image from Printer”). If
you want to print the images to a Windows printer, click “Print to Windows Printer”
button. On the other hand, if you need to print to a DICOM printer, click “Print to
DICOM Printer” button.

As stated in the previous section, to display the settings dialog box, click the ‘Settings’ button
under the ‘Edit’ tab, then make sure the ‘DICOM’ button is clicked.

To adjust the DICOM settings you need to set the following fields for both the local computer
and the DICOM machine (If you need assistance you might want to contact your system
administrator):

1. AET (Application Entity Title): enter the values in the ‘Local Host’ and the ‘Remote Host’
sections.
2. Host Name: enter the value in both sections.
3. IP Address: the unique network address should be entered accordingly.
4. TCP Port: the network port used for both the local computer and the DICOM machine.
5. Check the ‘Color Printer’ option if you are printing to a color printer.
6. If you want a white frame to surround all your printed images check the option ‘White
Frame on each image’.
7. Click Ok to close the dialog box.
