A Case Study using a combination stomahesive pasta dan powder for the treatment of severe
Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD) in community setting

Introduction: A 84-year-old lady was admitted to hospital with Diabetes mellitus and
Stroke. The patient stayed at the hospital from 31 July to 4 September 2020. As long as the
patient was hospitalised, the  patient often presented urinary and faecal incontinence. Patient
had Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD) caused by prolonged exposure stool and urine.
Intervention: On October  2020, wound care nurse specialist (WCNS) visited to patient’s
home. Patient had severe IAD, and her perianal skin was ulcer, very painful and causing her
distress. The ulcer was treatment using a combination stomahesive pasta and powder. Patient
was given skin cream previously from dermatologist, but the ulcer did  not heal. After  2
weeks application of stomahesive powder and pasta, the ulcer was healed. Patient also was
administered zam – zam water (alkali water) and dates juice 300 ml per day. After being
given zam-zam water and dates juice, patient‘stool becomes soft and the stools are not
frequent.  Result :  The visible improvement can be seen in the images. Pain relief was
immediate following the first application of stomahesive pasta and powder and within the six
days in home  there was significant physical improvement within the ulcer, and patient and
her family felt that this product really helped her physical and emotional wellbeing.
Conclusion: IAD  is a painful condition which can increase the risk of complications such as
secondary infection and  maceration ulcers. The instant relief in using stomahesive pasta and
powder  was very evident and ability to reduce the pain of IAD  and subsequent cleansing
improved the overall comfort and wellbeing for the patient.
