The Using of Media and Its Influence to Students’ English Proficiency: A Meta-Analysis

Students’ English proficiency becomes the most important aspect in English teaching. There are a
lot of problems faced by teacher while teaching English. Teachers need to utilize the media, choose
appropriate material, and also create comfortable environment so that students enjoy learning English.
Some experts stated that the using of media can influence students’ English proficiency. This study aimed
to generalize about correlation between the using media and students’ English proficiency through meta-
analysis. 31 articles met the inclusion criteria of this study. Unfortunately, the result showed that the using
of media did not correlate to students’ English proficiency significantly. It was caused by some research
are missing. There are two possibilities namely the significant research is not published and the sample is
too small. It can be a consideration for teachers that the media which will be used should consider the
students’ needs.
