Ist. at both ends of the next row, and every 4th row after, until sts. number 120. Rep. the last 2 rows until only 16 sts. remain. Cast off. THE NECK STRAPPING With No. 12 needles, cast on 10 sts. and work in rib thus: Ist row: SI. I knitwise, k. 1, then p. | and-k. | alternately to end. Rep. this row until strip is long enough to go all round neck, front and lower edges of bolero. Cast off. |THE SLEEVE BANDS (two alike) Work these exactly like the neck strapping, [but make each of them only II} inches in length. ‘THE EMBROIDERY Press bolero pieces lightly from wrong fe with a warm iron and damp cloth. Trace fof the embroidery design on to tissue paper, hen pin the tracing in place on to one of the fronts (remembering that the tracing must be reversed—i.e. turned over to the other side, lEwhen being added to second front). JFLOWER (I): Work each petal in encroaching fatin stitch (or long and shore stitch, as it is often termed), slanting from tip and sides, towards ntre of each petal. Begin by working a row all round outer edge with dark mauve wool, en, inside this, put in a 2nd row in dark mauve [vooi, followed by davk mauve AMk, anc fe | row light mauve silk, Scaniens are forked from centre of flower outwards, with straight stitches of cream silk, the ends of the 3¢s. lapping on to inner ends of petals. CLEAVES (5): As leaves No. 3, but use dark green wool at outer edge and dark green silk for inner tow of sts. and for centre vein and stems. MAIN STEM (6): Two rows of stem stitch, ide by side in dark green silk, graduating off at dach end to one row, in medium green silk. ‘TO COMPLETE BOLERO Press embroidery lightly on wrong side, under |warm iron and damp cloth. Join seams and sew ‘ sleeve-bands, then sew in sleeves.
