Downton Abbey is a British historical drama television series set in the early 20th

century, created by Julian Fellowes. The series first aired in the United Kingdom on 26
September 2010 and has 6 seasons and 52 episodes.
The series, set in the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey, follows the
lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants between 1912 and
1926.
Robert, married and father of 3 girls, was the owner of the propety and as some of you
may know, in the early 20’s a women could not inherite anything from her family. The
heir was always the closest male relative., meaning in the event of his death all the
estate would go to his cousin, Patrick, but he was on board of the titanic and he was
pronounced dead.
As soon as the news arrived the family finds its self on a very complicated situation,
since they didnt know who would be the next owner of Downton. Later we find out that
matthew, a far cousin of Robert’s was the heir of the Abbey. From that on the story
starts developing itself…
The series begins with the sinking of the Titanic, and in the course of the show, we
witness how some of the great events of the time, like the outbreak of first World War
and the Spanish Influenza affected British society.
Towards the end, we get to see the rise of the working class during the interwar period
and hints at the eventual decline of the British aristocracy.
Here are some of the main characters portrayed by some of the most outstanding and
talented actors.
Downton Abbey is also very popular among television critiques and acclaimed by the
public, which made the series get several nominations and winning awards.
In 2019, Downton abbey the film came out and essentially continues the storyline of the
series. Set in 1927, the film portrays a visit by the King and Queen of England to
Downton and all the events around it.
From the costumes and locations to the unique characters and their lifestyles, Downton
