How do computer applications affect our attitudes?
Attitude is related to almost every learning activity. Attitudes are internal states that influence our
tendency to respond in certain ways. People generally have positive or negative emotional
reactions to any learning situation. Those emotional reactions influence our attitude about what
we have learned. Our attitudes influence how we respond to our knowledge and skills. An attitude
of engaging in choices made about smoking, attending the opera, studying, following safety
procedures, and complying with traffic laws. Attitudes can be influenced and changed through the
use of classical conditions, reinforcement, and human modeling.
Every computer application will affect students' attitudes. If the program is designed to suit
individual needs, students will experience success and have positive emotional reactions. If the
program is too easy or too difficult, students will become bored or frustrated, leading to negative
attitudes. If the appropriate game elements are included in the application, students will be
motivated to continue interacting with the program. When students have choices, they will
engage in learning activities that are fun and relevant to their interests. Computer-based videodisc
applications can be used to demonstrate or model appropriate preferred behavior. (Taken from
