Recommendations for a new Manager

Our company decided to replace Paul Johnstone, because he had difficulties with
running our new project. We didn’t have the right style of management, was not able to
manage our team, and had some personal difficulties with stuff. Four candidates may take
Paul Johnstone’s place.
Introduction
This report will look at:
 strengths and weaknesses of shortlisted candidates;
 recommendation with reasons for a preferred candidate as the new Project
Manager.
Review of candidates
Ruth, Sales Manager, Central Europe
Strong personality, who is concentrated on achieving goals. She gives clear
instructions to the tasks, but her management style is similar to the Paul’s one. This may
cause a problem, because our team couldn’t be under authoritarian leader.
Eduardo, Manager, New Business
He is a very kind person with great personal skills. He is a good listener and cares
about his team. However, it is very important for him to be liked by his team, and it may
cause some problems. Also, if team needs to be strong controlled, he may not handle it.
Kazuo, Manager, Business Support Unit
Hard-working person and without any doubt loyal to the company. Has good
organizing abilities and is focused on results. But despite this, he believes that the
company is more important than the individual, and some people in the team may argue
with this statement.
Martina, Manager, IT Department
She is demanding, tenacious and responsible. Martina has brilliant organizing and
motivating skills, although being too trusting could have bad consequences for the
company.
Recommendations
All candidates have their own strengths and weaknesses. Ruth is strong, but
authoritarian; Eduardo is friendly, but need to be liked by his team; Kazuo is loyal and
hard-working, but too concentrated on the job; Martina is responsible but trusting. From
these four people, I think the best suitable one is Eduardo. His friendly personality in
combination with good organizing skills will lead the company to the success. He prefers
to make decisions and set goals with his team. Also, treating staff as individuals and
sorting out their problems are highly appreciated skills. To finalize, I believe that Eduardo
will be the best option and will fit in our company.
