Plan: Jokes, the scene, no laugh track

In my opinion The Office (US) is simply the best TV show of all time. It’s uses of comedy in a style
that compliments itself to its setting, and characters is, to say the least, genius. Unlike other popular
shows such as The Big Bang Theory or Friends, the Office does not include a laugh track to fill the
silence between jokes or to elongate an episode. This allows the Office, on average, to include more
jokes in the given run length of the episode.

A mockumentary is the style in which the office goes for and trust it is pure comedy genius. Due to
the show being a “documentary” every episode there are these scenes where it’s a one on one
interview with a specific character. This allows the audience to understand more about each
character, understanding their specific feelings thoughts and opinions about a current situation but
still in a comedic way.

One of the best scenes of television I have ever seen came from the office. It came from an Episode
called Stress Relief and in this specific scene the employees are being taught how to do CPR on a test
dummy. This scene’s pure brilliance starts off when Michael is asked to perform CPR to the dummy
to the beat of Stayin alive by the Bee Gees, and he starts performing CPR to the start of the song
instead of the chorus. This display of incompetence from Michael (The manager of the branch by the
way) provokes Dwight to show off his skills when it comes to first aid. Approaching this dummy who
seems to be dead Dwight immediately decides to do the most practical thing in this scenario…

He harvests the organs. Jumping on to the idea of profiting out of this desperate situation somehow
Dwight whips out his knife, which for some reason he has in his possession, and cuts through the
chest of the dummy, and still in front of everyone he proceeds to extract the dummies organs. In a
final flourish Dwight rips off and decides to wear it as a mask causing his fellow workers to be
distraught at his actions.
