To form verbs in present participle (–ing)

we have the following rules:
- If the verb ends in a silent –e, drop
it, and add ing
Ex: shave -> shaving
Take -> taking
- If the verb ends in consonant + vowel
+ consonant, double the last
consonant:
Ex: put -> putting

BE CAREFUL: this rule has exceptions:
if the verb ends in w, x or y. also, if
the syllable with more emphasis isn’t
the last one.
Ex: snow -> snowing
