All he can see everyday in the hospital were people who do their best to survive and heroes
who help them to fight for their existences. As of 7:12 am of April 20, 2020, Monday,
another patient arrived at the hospital. Doctor Sanchez empathize the new patient because of
her situation. There’s a chance she will survive or not. They take her to the facilities were all
patient were there having their own spaces ensuring that they won’t infect anybody.
“Doc Sanchez, patient 107 is critical. we need your help. “ a nurse came in panting.
Doctor Sanchez left the baby and let the other nurses take care of her. With the team, they do
their best to help patient no.107 to survive, but it shows no signs. Patient no.107 died.
Another person gave up their life. They could not bear it anymore because many people are
dying. Still, they have this hope and courage to fight for them as long as they can.
Doctor Sanchez hurridly go back to the new patient to check her condition.
“Doc, she is doing fine but she is still crying, her mother was in the ICU. “ the nurse who
take care of the baby said to him.
The doctor quickly go to her mother to give some help. There are just two doctor who were in
the hospital. All are working hard for the patients. You can see around the place tha panic, the
sadness, the loneliness, the longing for their parents or relatives, you can hear their cries and
grieves but also, you can hear them surviving, seeing them fighting as long as they can. In the
middle of the work, Doctor Sanchez had a call from the phone. Because he can’t be bothered,
he didn’t answer the call. He didn’t know that the one who called him was Jamie, his
girlfriend. He continue on saving life.There were 1000 patient listed on the paper who was
diagnosed positive on Corona Virus that was issued on the year 2019. This virus is
contagious disease so the health workers are wearing protective measures such as PPE’s and
facaemask. The people are adviced to wear facemask so that they will not be infected by the
virus.
Doctor Sanchez and other nurses were given 15 minutes to snap. But Doctor sanchez
suddenly woke up because of another terrifying news.
“Doc, patient 108 already died.” He doesn’t know how to react on this kind of news. He is
worried about the baby awhile ago. She will grow without a mother. The father of the baby
which is patient no.207 passed away two weeks ago because of the virus but the relatives nor
his wife didn’t know about the incident. She was too little to be alone and be surrounded by
fear.
Days passed and nothing changes. The cases for Corona Virus is uprising and their only hope
is praying. Two thousands patient were added on the list who is tested postivie of the virus.
Amidst of the hardwork and perseverance of everyone, the news flash which gives everyone
a light and a hope.
“The vaccine of the Corona Virus is already done. They will deliver the vaccines on each
hospital in the Philippines but only two thousands people are the capacity of the vaccine.”
The people rejoice for the good news. The vaccines are very suitable for their needs because
all of their patients will finally be healed. Out of joy, Doctor Sanchez will call his girlfriend
Jamie which is he has no communication when his duty started. He noticed that Jamie miss a
call from him. He quickly call her but she is not responding. He ask himself why Jamie just
call him once when she can call other day. He got this bad feeling. He check all the list of the
patients from one until he got to number two hundred twenty seven.
Patient no.207 Jamie Cruz
His body trembles and he slowly kneeling down. This news is breaking his heart and leaving
a whole into it. He can’t hold back his tears to roll down on his cheeks. The nurses felt sorry
for Doctor Sanchez. They didn’t tell him so that Doctor Sanchez will not affect his work.
Instead of being mad to the nurses, he calm himself and tries to talk to them calmly.
“Where is patient no.207, Jamie Cruz?” he ask in trembling voices.
“Sir, I’m sorry to say but.. patient no.207 isn’t here.” the nurse replied.
“What?!” he exclaim.
“She was delivered to the other hospital because she insisted, a father take his place who died
a month ago.” other nurse replied.
“Also, he was the father of patient no.1005.” she added.
He close his eyes for him to understand what is happening and he thinks that he will be crazy.
Then, an idea came in in his mind. He hurridly run where is the vaccines and take one. He get
his motor keys and keep running out of the hospital. Many nurses were running after him and
keeping him from leaving but they can’t.
The other hospital is just 30 minutes to travel. He starts his engine and drive for his love.
He arrived safely at the hospital. The guard didn’t ask him when he enters the hospital
because he is wearing PPE. He ask the front desk where is patient Jamie Cruz.
“You mean, patient no.207?”
He nodded. The nurse can see that he was in hurry. She told where there facility is.
He found his love. Surviving. That’s why she isn’t answering.
He came near to Jamie to talk to her.
“Hey.. “
“Hey” she replied weak.
“I’m sorry…” Doctor Sanchez burst in tears because he can help others while he can’t help
his love.
“It’s ok. I’ll be fine. You are a good doctor.” she replied happily because atlast, she finally
saw her love.
“Did the vaccine already brought here?” he asked.
“Not yet. But I will assure that I’ll get the vaccine and be healed.” she promised to him.
For the last minute, they hold each other hand saying to each other that they will get through
this. Doctor Sanchez go back to the hospital with the one vaccine he had.
A nurse welcome him in worry.
“Doc!, we are out of vaccine. Patient no. 1005 , which you are taking care of didn’t get one.”
she said.
He run as fast as he could and came to the baby. He heard her cries of suffering and begging
for help.
He inject the vaccine on the baby. The baby stops from crying. He release a deep sigh as a
sign of relief.
He congratule everyone who was survive these waves of life. Everybody rejoices and thank
the Lord for saving their lives. They patient is still in their isolated areas for their fastest
healing. They were taken care of the nurses until they get discharge.
Another morning arrive and everyone wake up with a smile. The sunshine gets brighter as
their hope is greating brighter for this pandemic to end. Doctor Sanchez gets ready because
he will visit Jamie Cruz. He was about to leave the place when he heard the news that will
eventually break his heart.
“Patient no.207 died because of Corona Virus. The health worker said that this patient
resisted the vaccine for the another patient who was a baby. She said that the baby must live
longer. She has last words for Doctor Sanchez.”
“Love, Thank you for being a hero for everyone especially for me. I will always love you
from the depth of my heart.”
His body began to freeze. He can’t believe what just happened. Tears fell from his eyes. He
regret that he left Jamie. He saved everyone except his love. He fell to the ground and lean on
the glass door. He don’t know what to do anymore. Until, he remember the baby that was
saved by his girlfriend. He promise to Jamie that he will take care of the two babies they
saved until they become like her, heroines.
She doesn’t know that she is a heroine and I am a hero. We are perfect for each other.
We both save lives but she did not survive. I salute you, my love, for being my heroine,
our heroine. – Doctor Sanchez
