Tita Synthiea, let me educate you about 5 different types of qualitative research, I hope you learn and find them interesting. The first type of qualitative research is the ethnographic study, which includes the gathering and examination of information on a particular cultural community or region. In this study, the researcher is immersed in people and becomes part of their society, and they must be active in the day-to-day lives of the subjects. An example of this type could be “The daily experiences of people living in poverty in Tondo” since it specifically pertains to people who live in Tondo and who are in poverty.
The second type is Phenomenological Study, which is where the researcher attempts to locate the essence or form of reality by demonstrating how complex concepts are formed from core elements of inner experience. This applies to the various perspectives and views of an individual's point of view, used to analyze situations, experiences, perceptions, patterns, and so on. The third type of case study is an in-depth analysis of a particular collection or group of individuals, the object of which is to provide insight into some kind of problem, as well as provide some context evidence for larger studies. A case study often requires a thorough and detailed review of a single person, community or circumstance over a period of time.
The fourth type is narrative analysis; its primary sources of data obtained for this study are the life stories of people based on their personal experience. The key aim of this analysis is to draw from these interactions a concrete context. There are 3 common types of narrative analysis; Psychological which means analyzing a story based on internal thoughts and opinions, Biographical which means taking the persons society, gender, and class into account, and Discourse analysis which formally pertains to which language the person speaks.
And finally the fifth type Postmodern research opposed to conventional ways of qualitative data collection this method is the style of analysis that attempts to examine the information that have been described as facts, the capacity of research and science to ascertain the reality.
Okay tita to help you further understand let me summarize and, compare and contrast each type of qualitative research for you, beginning with ethnographic research which focuses on a certain group of people comparing to case study the only difference of these two is that the ethnographic focuses on the environment and habits of the people while the case study focuses on gathering information through interviews. Next with the phenomenological Research it mainly focuses on gathering a in-depth opinion or idea of a simple topic, both similar and different with narrative it is similar since they are both in favor of gathering past experiences of their respondents the narrative mainly focuses on learning about the background or history of the person while the phenomenological requires to get and in depth or deep meaningful answer.
Next type is Postmodern as mentioned it is different compared to the traditional types of researches, it mainly focuses on the determine information that have been proven to be facts, it cannot not rely on opinionated or non peer reviewed data.
