LAN Hardware
The section covers the following hardware technologies as they can be applied to LAN design :

Between 2 computers a normal cable is enough to provide networking, but for more than 2
computers we need a hub/switch to interconnect nodes.
The goal of a networking is to minimize the cost based on these elements while delivering service.
Ques.No1:Server Placement Good Network Design : The 80-20 Rule
• In a properly designed small to medium-sized network environment, 80 percent of the
traffic (nodes) should be placed in a segment(local) and the server should be placed
on that segment for better data transmission. And not more than 20 percent of the
network traffic(nodes) should need to move across a backbone (the spine that
connects various segments or subnetworks).
• Backbone congestion can indicate that traffic patterns are not meeting the 80-20 rule.

Number of Computers

Question: Suggest the most suitable place (i.e., Wing) to house the server of this
organization with a suitable reason, with justification.
Answer: As per 80-20 rule, the most suitable place to house the server is Wing Y as it
has the most number of computers thus cabling cost will be reduced and most traffic
will be local.

Ans: FIREWALL

2. An economic way of connecting is Dial-up or broadband as it can connect two

computers at an economic rate though it provides lesser speed than other expensive
methods.
