Cold War Summary

The Cold War was a state of political conflict between the Soviet Union's interests in the Eastern
Bloc and its satellite nations, and the United States, its NATO supporters, those in the Western
Bloc. Historians do not agree fully on the periods, but a general period is the time between 1947, the
second half of the 20th century, the year in which the Truman Doctrine and U.S. foreign policy
agreements to help nations affected by Soviet expansionism were declared, and 1991, the year in
which the Soviet Union dissolved.
