CAST OF CHARACTERS

HORACE
WARFIELD

For a man so deeply entwined

with the darker, more
mysterious aspects of the
Dominion, Horace Warfield had
a relatively unexceptional
childhood. He was born in the
Tarsonian coastal city of
Kithrup, the youngest son of
Shae and Henry Warfield. His
parents both worked for the local hospital: his father was
an administrator; his mother, a neurosurgeon.

Some theorize that this exposure to the bureaucracy of life and death
may have influenced the direction of his career. Records have never been
found to corroborate the rumors collected among scattered Tarsonian
refugees that Warfield was abused as a child, but there are enough

disconnected pieces of information to warrant the possibility. His older

brother and sister both moved into careers in the medical field, and there

have never been solid explanations regarding exactly why young Horace
Warfield decided to enlist in the Confederate Marine Corps or how his
family reacted to the decision. Tragically, all other members of the
Warfield family were on Tarsonis during the first zerg invasion; there is

no evidence of their having escaped the planet, and they are assumed
dead.

Warfield rose through the ranks of the Confederate military with

surprising speed, earning commendations from his superiors for valor,

tactical brilliance, and decisive leadership in his squad. He served two
tours in the Guild Wars and was promoted to lieutenant colonel as the

engagement neared its end. It was at the start of his career, on the
embattled planet Sonyan, that Warfield met Arcturus Mengsk. Mengsk

was a captain in the 33rd Ground Assault Division, where Warfield first
saw combat, and the captain recognized the quiet, cool-headedness of
the recruit as a reflection of Mengsk's own strategic abilities. During a

closely fought battle in the South Kreen Mines, Warfield led a charge into
an enemy bunker, taking three bullets in the shoulder as he cleared a
vital position. Warfield was quickly made first lieutenant under Mengsk,
and veterans from the 33rd still speak of the easy camaraderie the two

men formed over the course of that first year. Near the conclusion of the
Guild Wars, Mengsk chose a separate course from the military path that

Warfield was loyal to, but both men stayed in contact.

In the following years, Warfield was assigned tasks that dealt less with
warfare and more with Confederate "peacekeeping." His distaste for the

Confederacy grew until the bombardment of Korhal: he was in the Sara

system when he heard of the genocidal attack, and witnesses say that

he called in his resignation at that very minute. His command ship, the
battlecruiser Iron Justice, cut off all contact with the surrounding military
network and went silent. The crewmembers had been handpicked by

Warfield from his most loyal officers; they followed their leader into the
darkness.

Records of Horace Warfield are hazy after that. Labeled a deserter by

Confederate forces, Warfield was hunted throughout the Sara system and
beyond. Nobody is quite sure when or how he renewed contact with

Arcturus Mengsk, but within the first few months of the formation of the
Sons of Korhal, Horace Warfield was quietly directing the rebels' brazen

attacks against the Confederacy. His intimate knowledge of the

government's military strength, position, and movements was invaluable
to the success of the rebellion. Some say that it was his intel that led to

the securing of the psi emitter on Mar Sara - as well as its use on
Tarsonis.

As the Dominion took hold over the sector, the now-general Warfield

was seen as one of the more trusted advisors to the new emperor.
Mengsk trusted Warfield with his most crucial tasks, stratagems, and
missions. Before his death on Korhal, General Edmund Duke is said to
have referred to Warfield as "the emperor's other brat," insinuating that
Warfield wasn't in Augustgrad helping fight against the zerg threat due to

his privileged status in their leader's eyes.

Warfield retired in 2501, having served in some of the most historic

battles in the terran occupation of the Koprulu sector. But his military
days were not over. Recent movements by the zerg in Dominion territory

have alarmed Emperor Mengsk enough to reactivate his old comrade.

General Horace Warfield is now in command of the entire Dominion
armed forces, and the history books stand to bear his name once again.

Warfield, blizzard couldn't be a little more creative with his last name? lol

RED 2/20/11 9:02 PM

Reminds me of chuck norris

LibertyPrime 6 days, 5 hours ago

@RED: so true

Burntreez 2/17/11 12:29 AM

So he resigned from the Confederacy because of the genocidal attack on Korhal, yet he was instrumental in the placing of the psi emitter

on Tarsonis?

Sounds like General Warfield's morality is a little inconsistent.

Archangel 5 days, 8 hours ago

@DREX: I'm not sure he even knew about the true fall of Tarsonis. It said he was instrumental in acquiring the emitter

plans, and that that eventually led to it's use on Tarsonis. There isn't any real proof he even knew what the damn thing

did. And it's not like Mengsk would tell everyone he had a superweapon. He'd probably actively work to keep it a secret

from Warfield knowing his background.

Best proof I can find on that is that (SPOILERS!!!) he took half the Dominion fleet to Char AFTER the whole Tarsonis

scandal had broken out on the news, in direct defiance of Mengsk. Not to mention working with Raynor...

HanzMuller 2/16/11 2:32 AM

My ship has taken terrible terrible damage!

ReaperRage 2/6/11 3:38 PM

Then How Do You Be His Friend If Hes Working With The Dominion.

Froopermoop 2/4/11 5:55 AM

Now if Warfield WAS Chuck Norris, as a few people believe, he wouldn't have lost his arm to a Hydralisk spine. He would toss it back at

him and the Hydralisk would have died slowly in bed a week later. ;)

Froopermoop 2/4/11 6:01 AM

@Froopermoop: Correction: Do Zerg have beds? I don't suppose his Hydralisk family would come and visit him in his dying

hours... probly too busy getting their brains blown out by siege tanks... >.>

killer 1/29/11 2:13 AM

he looks like a nood/retard

DarkPaladin 1/19/11 7:41 PM

His new arm rocks, u see the builtin gun it has... sign me up for one of those

JetfirePrime 2/17/11 8:50 PM

@DarkPaladin: He lost his hand due to a Hydralisk no I mean Hunter Killer poisoned his arm and the poison cannot be

cured and then his arm was cut off by a Zealot Blade and replaced by a Robo-arm that can convert into a cannon that can

knock a Carrier out of the Sky in one shot.

AKimerr 1/19/11 7:17 AM

he killed a hydralisk with his bare hands....... @#!*ing badass

FreakSheet 1/24/11 4:41 AM

@Ace: well, actually, he killed the Hydralisk he punched, and another one came to avenge it, which Raynor shot.

IN THE FACE!

trapoviejo 2/1/11 3:57 PM

@FreakSheet: Well, actually he exterminated all Zerg from the Universe with his BARE HANDS

dryst 2/5/11 7:22 AM

@trapoviejo: well, acutally he was about to get owned but raynor had to save him...

THEnoob 1/4/11 12:58 AM

Special desert camo marine suit

Froopermoop 2/4/11 5:56 AM

@THEnoob: Doesn't really help in the red and black landscape of Char. Like at all.

Dimitry 12/21/10 9:18 PM

Alekous 12/20/10 7:06 PM

Wolfman 1/10/11 1:57 AM

Wolkinov 12/17/10 1:47 AM

If Chuck Norris were black...

GoM 12/15/10 10:51 PM

a black man named horace should be wearing some sort of goggles...

jus sayin....

BlackMage 12/23/10 2:37 AM

@GoM: Made me lol

PrivateJoker 12/14/10 10:55 PM

This is too long winded to be interesting. These profiles need to be briefer, we don't know need to read vast amounts of information to

learn about why one of the characters makes a couple appearances in the game.

TheBoss 12/23/10 3:39 PM

@PrivateJoker: first off one of the great things about starcraft is the "world" it is applied in. its not just a !@!!ty game they

threw together, its thought up from corner to corner of the system. they obviously followed the path of JRR tolken, and

star wars, in setting up an actual setting before creating the story. if its too long for your 12 year old brain dont read it.

Ace 1/22/11 11:47 PM

@PrivateJoker: get some patience. nobody said you had to read it anyways

dryst 2/5/11 7:25 AM

@PrivateJoker: well if ur to lazy to read...then his picture pretty much sums it up...angry black man in a marine suit....

Wesley 2/18/11 4:04 PM

@dryst: XD

Sieben 12/13/10 5:30 PM

He's like the Saurfang of the StarCraft Universe.

Fimoreth 12/12/10 9:21 PM

The guy is awesome. Would love to see a novel about him. Would buy & read.

FireSpiter 12/14/10 2:07 AM

@Fimoreth: Meh, the books/novels/stories about games usually aren't good. No offence, but I wouldn't want to mess up

the complete awesomeness that is Warfield.

Eroldren 12/15/10 1:58 AM

@FireSpiter: Agree only with the latter bit. But the most he'll likely get be in the SC:G Spectre novel next year. I, Mengsk

by Graham McNeill however a is excellent work out of the whole lot produce, top in my list.

@ Fimoreth: Only other way Warfield get some heavy action is Blizz milk out another good Mengsk story... perhaps more

Guild War, ROK/SOK, and Dominion foundation to post-Brood War in-depth.

On a sidenote: I got a very distant relative name Horace lol!

ThatsRandom 12/12/10 9:14 PM

All I know about this guy is that he one shot k.o. hydralisk with his fists and he has a cannon instead of an arm... which is bad ass :3

Fischer 12/3/10 3:48 AM

Maybe even more badass in combat than Jim. Definitely not Tychus though. ;)
