Encoder Output / Pole Pair Select By means of a 5-way Dip switch it is possible to select the encoder resolution and the number of poles of the connected brushless motor. The switch is located on the Identity Card (see page 12). To get access to the switch, the card has to be taken out. 1. The BTS 10 P/20 PA is then set to a voltage controlled current amplifier. With RP 1 and RP 6 set fully CW the overall gain is Ge (A/V) 3,65 SET-UP PROCEDURE FOR BTS 10 P/20 PA (CONTINUED) Tacho feedback is automatically switched out by opening LB 5 (1B 101 open!). The current reference input is on ST 1/13 and st 1/12. LB 5 is closed ex factory hence amplifier has to be used as velocity controller. 5. Phase Advance The generated current in each winding lags the current command as a function of shaft velocity. This is due to the current loop bandwidth, limited by the fixed intermediate bus voltage. To produce max. torque per ampere, the real current vector (or torque producing) must be in phase with the EMF of the motor. Advancing the phase angle must be performed as a function of motor speed and electrical time constant. R 23 located on the Identity Card (see page 12) determines the amount of phase advance. With the standard value (R 23 = 26,7 ka) the current efficiency is approx. 90... 95 %. For critical applications, the optimal resistor value is available on request. Improper phase advance setting may lead to speed limiting. 6. Voltage Check 6.1 BTS 10 P The BTS 10 P works on 200 V DC nominal with a maximum working voltage of 240 V DC. The 3-phase transformer should have an AC-output of 140 V nominal or 169 V max. @ no load (star- configuration phase to phase voltage). 6.2 BTS 20 PA The BTS 20 works on 300 VDC nominal with a maximum working voltage of 350 VDC. The 3-phase transformer should have an AC- output of 215 V nominal or 247 Vv max. @ no load (starconfi- guration phase to phase voltage). Note: The voltage check should be made with all amplifiers disconnected. The AC-supply should be measured without BPS 10/20, the DC-supply with BPS 10/20. 7. Potentiometer Preset Install BTS 10 P/20 PA amplifiers and BPS 10/20 Power supply according to drawing # 16127 (see page 8) and set the potentiometers on the Identity Card as follows: SET-UP PROCEDURE FOk BTS 10 P/20 PA (CONTINUED) a) RP 1 (command input) clockwise for max. input gain b) RP 3 (velocity feedback gain) clockwise for max. gain c) RP 5 (velocity loop gain) clockwise for min. gain d) RP 6 (peak current) anti-clockwise for reduced current Speed Adjust (for velocity controller only) a) Remove command signal lines and short circuit input (ST 1/12 and sT 1/13) b) Power on. Turn RP 6 slowly clockwise until motor develops torque. If no torque - check CW/CCW limit and Total Disable Inputs. If motor shaft accelerates - check resolver wiring. c) Adjust RP 4 (velocity offset) until motor comes to a complete rest. d) Connect command signal and adjust speed with RP 3 necessary in your application. e) Check offset again. Response Optimization The step response can be optimized with the velocity loop gain potentiometer RP 5. In order to achieve proper adjustment it is necessary to observe the current waveform on TP 5 (on Identity Card) with an oscilloscope. RP 5 is adjusted properly when the current waveform shows a single overshoot on applying a step command. At constant velocity the AC-component on TP 5 should be kept as low as possible but should not exceed 2 Vpp in order to avoid excessive motorheating. -ul- (AV dWOD CYS ALILN3OI wees ae OZ IO SL ul sonra L —vST ty v pest me [) ae 7 Sey rea jl fan soniao 7 seb Jol E T —(S2a}- Id jnjo0") fi Tze} [|°] 2e2]] e20) —L8te dL fpnja0 "1 as zt Ce} idl ponj20% ba Ce Tees sos} ai: WHERINES 3 Ei sits} ~Ces} [es | ov id PUDWWo> sn3)ian 01D idl Ju At Sens [era 2013] Zu ee 1 AO Bl os a i “LNOAY?_ INBNOINOD NMOHS WOU oTat 2 2 5 283410 Av IN3MGDV IG) IN3NOUMOD “TWwNLOV S S a (fue asodind 45a} 10) dado Ai {100 yuauuns :uado 39 - (Povo ssous ez CS] -oe Ge aoe Ce wena veut Ste} —fiste}- Sore} UVAse LI -Csg} Teta Zi ARAB a a] al a ae Ie E fy 3 sl ef 4) SE 3 S| Sl ol ofA FA g| a el g Ma gla Sin ala Sl a2 13 213 oi8 8/3 21 3713/5) Bz ele a SPS ee 22m ‘| 124 J0u87 = 1 -12- POTENTIOMETERS ON BTS 10 P/20 PA For location of potentiometers see page 12 drawing # 15820 RP 1 - Input gain velocit: or current fully CW = unity gain RP 4 - Velocity offset adjust zero speed adjust for zero command RP 3 ~ Velocity feedback gain has to be adjusted to reference speed. Fully CW # max. gain RP 5 - Velocity loop gain adjust adjusts the frequency response of the velocity controlloop Turning RP 5 anti-clockwise results in an increasing high frequency gain with possibly negative effects (motorheating). It is extremely important to observe TP 5 on the Identity Card with an oscilloscope when adjusting RP 5. For most applications there is no need to increase the AC-gain and RP 5 is set to fully CW. RP 6 - Peak current adjust Sets peak current level which can be measured on TP 5 Fully CW 2 max. Ip. Since most signals have alternating waveforms it is recommended to use an oscilloscope for measuring purposes. All signals are related to TP 22 (AGND). Caution: To avoid ground loops and interference, it is strongly advised to isolate the measuring equipment from neutral (earth). TP 1: Actual rms current phase U Ipx # 10,0 V TP 2: Actual rms current phase V Tox # 10,0 V. TP 3: Actual rms current phase W 1, 10,0 Vv Note: For torque calculations referring to the actual current the formula is T+3 °K, VTP (for rotating motorshaft) where T = Motortorque (Nm) K» = Torque constant per phase (Nm/A) V TP = Voltage on TP 1, 2, or 3 I,, = peak rms current rating of amplifier BIS 10 P/20 PA (Ip. = 2° I nom.) TP 5: I command This is the output signal of the velocity controlloop 9,65 V max = amplifier's peak current. The voltage level is proportional to rms output current. TP 5 is the major testpoint to look at during set-up. The voltage level can be converted easily to accel/decel torque or friction by using the motor torque constant. The signal waveform is DC with a superimposed alternating component. As a general rule, current saturation should be avoided at all times. The AC component must be kept as low as possible since this leads to heat dissipation in the motor (see potentiometer RP 5). Caution: TP 5 shows the current command before It limiting. Be sure that It limit is off - otherwise current- reading will be false. TP 6: Velocity command signal (or current command when LB 5 open) shows input signal after attenuator RP 1. = 1@ + TP 7: Note: BTS 10 P/20 PA - TESTPOINTS (CONTINUED) Actual velocity This signal is derived from the resolver to digital converter and is used as velocity feedback. The It-Limit is still functioning. S-Option Although the BTS 10 P/20 PA are prepared for uSMCC (S-option) it is not possible to fit this option in the field. 24 v-Option The Control Supplies are normally generated from the 200/300 Vo_ - BUS supply. For some applications it is necessary to keep the control electronics on stand-by (ex. position information). This can be achieved by using a supplementary external 24 V supply. In this case the internal supplies will be generated from the 24 V. Consequently the BUS supply can be varied in a wide range from 0 to nominal. This feature is not standard and cannot be fitted in the field. - 37 - BALDOR ASR GmbH has tried to ensure that the information given in this manual is correct at time of going to print.
