projects, extracurricular activities, etc). How did you approach the problem? What role did you and
others play? What was the outcome?
In my last job I was a part of a new team that looked at data monitoring and reporting. Although Indian
Political Action Committee (I-PAC) is India’s biggest political consulting company, it is highly
unorganized. This was a great change for me as I was coming from a highly structured setup where all the
processes were in place to a workplace where no fixed protocols were followed, and any decision could be
changed overnight. Convincing them to resort to Excel and R for efficient reporting was difficult but after a
series of meetings with the management they finally agreed to give it a shot.
The client provided us with sheets of raw data having scattered information. The first problem at hand was
to structure the same to organize a mass campaign based on the data. Secondly, I had to find a way to
report and analyse the data that was going to be extracted by the field team working on primary research
at the grassroots. I binned (compartmentalised), sorted, used functions like VLookup and pivot tables to
sort the raw data provided into meaningful tables. The next challenge was to prepare a reporting
framework that represented the field team’s findings for each day. I determined the requirement from my
manager and prepared a dashboard that represented clear and concise information. I also took help of the
technology team to streamline the data received. I assumed the responsibility of a self-starter trying to
revolutionize data presentation at I-PAC.
Consequently, not only was my boss happy, but I also laid down a way of data analysis and visualization
which is being used till date. I also made sure to train my fellow colleagues on the way of creating such
dashboards so that the whole process is not stalled because of my absence.
