A large number of criminals after completing their first punishment
indulge themselves in more crimes. This is mainly because of the lack of
facilities, bad environment provided to them and ill-treatment done on
them by other criminals as well as police officials. Many measures such
as skill development, awareness programme and conducting various
activities in jail could be provided to tackle the prevailing problem.

Firstly, whenever a person enters a jail for the first time, he/she is ill-
treated by the other criminals present in jail. Also, some of the police
officials in necessary provoke them, beat them even if their behaviour is
good in the jail. Due to this, person starts to develop hate society and
people. He starts to believe that whatever he/she has done is right and is
the best way to survive in such cruel society. Further, there are no skill
development activities, awareness campaign which takes place in jail for
these criminals.

Secondly, various measures can be taken to solve the current problem. In

jail activities related to sports, lifestyle, education should be promoted.
As majority of the criminals are illiterate, small skill development
schools could be set up in the jail for learning certain skills which can
help them to get employment.

In conclusion, since the current scenario in the jail is not up to the mark,
the criminals will continue to do more crimes even after serving the
punishment. In order to solve these problem various schemes needs to be
initiated to make realise criminals their mistakes and develop some skills
which could be beneficial for them in the future.
