Curriculum and syllabus are two important things in the world of education which are literally very
close to the system that takes place in the classroom. Its role is important because it is a reference for
the ongoing process of education or in other words it is a reference for the course of the class making
prospective educators must learn these two things. Even though they have different meanings, they
have a relation that makes them related.

This is clearly stated in PP 19 of 2005 article 17 paragraph 2. "Schools and school committees, or
madrasah and madrasah committees, develop a unit level curriculum and syllabus based on the basic
framework of curriculum and graduate competency standards, under the supervision of the district /
city offices in charge of responsible for education for SD, SMP, SMA and SMK, and the department in
charge of government affairs in the religious sector for MI. MTs, MA, and MAK ”. It has the same
meaning with, the development of the syllabus is based on the basic framework of the curriculum.
Therefore, the syllabus is part of the curriculum.

This can also be proven from the understanding of the syllabus itself, namely the learning plan in a
group of subjects which includes competency standards, basic competencies, time allocation, etc. all of
those must be in accordance with the curriculum reference which is the largest part of the learning
process reference.

For example, one of the syllabus for junior high school level / MADRASAH TSANAWIYAH, from the
table of contents of the syllabus model, several topics were listed, namely basic competencies, the
syabus model from various junior high school levels, and also a learning implementation plan model.
Everything is a development of the 2013 curriculum which basically emphasizes the attitudes of the
students themselves and makes students the center of the learning process or students are demanded
to be more active than their teachers. Learning English must include observing, asking questions and
also emphasizing self-activity. The 2013 curriculum also places great importance on the media used
during the learning process as well as in the syllabus. It can be seen from the use of multimedia in the
learning process to be carried out. The entire design of the series of activities in the syabus also shows
that students are required to be active. It is proven in the learning column that uses the word listen,
imitate, then demonstrate. Another example, in the core activity column, has been described about
table activities and mind maps which are examples of activities at schools that apply the 2013
curriculum.
