When you hear the word CRISPR, you might think of chips

But this is quite different, no that just isn't it

CRISPR is more than a chip, yes it’s more than a food

CRISPR is gene editing and it’s rather quite new

There's this thing called a gene drive

No not the Alan Jackson song

But just like changing lyrics

It doesn't take very long

Its been done before, and will be used again too

You see its rather easy, for anyone to do

You, me, him, her, even a smart fool

And all they really need, is the CRISPR tool

People say it should be more difficult

But I don't really know why

Its only changing a few animals

Not like a whole species will die

But even if that does happen

Who really cares?

Its only animals, there's plenty to spare

We can just make more, we do it all the time

Humans can fix any problem, even the natural kind

Unlike us humans, nature is flawed

Nature is not perfect, not perfect at all

If something is bad, we can destroy it at last

What is broken can be fixed, like cracks in a glass

But that glass will be shattered, be shattered by us

That glass is nature, and we will destroy it as such

Sure, we can fix something that hurts us more than them

But we must be careful, as careful as we can

If we make a mistake, one we cannot reverse

Instead of doing good, we will do much more hurt

If that does happen, the beauty of nature could end

We will create even bigger problems, that we cannot fix again
