1. Giới thiệu bản thân

Hello, Ms ... and Ms .....; My name is Tien Khai, currently the final year student at
Foreign Trade University HCMC. I want both of you to remember me as an person who
has a spirit of challenging my limits. I always jump at every opportunity around me,
whether big or small, either working or in daily life to enhance my ability, meet new
people and have memorable experience.
From my university life, I have undertool a leadership role in a club, become the speaker
of the school introduction programme or had the chance to present a business idea in
front of nearly 400 audience in a contest, I have such great experience và learn incredible
new things skills and a more confident person as I am now.

 Your team project recently won an award but your team members were
unhappy with your leadership. What would you do?

First and mostly important, transparency in communication

We have achieved good results, so leadership maybe something related to how I deal
with my members during the teamwork. Therefore, the fact that members are not happy
with my leadership, first I need to thank you for their striaght feedback, then I need them
to elaborate on several circumstances from which there are errors in my leadership. If I
confirm those are right, it is necessary for me to take it seriously and show them my
commitment and the way I would fix in the near future.

On the contrary, if what I have done is needed at that time to achieve the end results, I
would like to clarify my purpose to them. We will need to work on some new ways to
deal with similar situations in the future to prevent unsatisfaction working as much as
possible.

Yeah, so in the end, it would be transparent communication to be clear on the thinkings

of wo sides and the team work on solutions to avoid similar situations in the future.

 HEINEKEN is constantly innovating with new products and creating new

experiences for consumers. Tell us about a time when you challenged existing ways
of doing things and introduced a new idea that created an impact.

It was my participation in the global challenge Hult Prize last year, 2019. We was asked
to bring bold business ideas that bring sustainable impact on the world with every dollar
earned. as we have to balance between innovation and feasibility. At that time, we
intended to work on changing the source of power that people consume everyday. It
would be usual to come up with better solar, tidal, wind power as renewable energies.
But at that time, I talked to the team that we had to be bold and we could brought up
ideas out of this world. It was funny, but it encouraged us to conduct more research and
finally we decided to harness energy from human body heat. It was first difficult to
persuade the judges about the feasibility of this idea. But we try very hard, research on
papers on this topic, develop business models for our pitch.

In the end, we persuade how this idea could change one million people in Asia. We
proceeded into the regional round south east assia _ and it was really a great experience.

 HEINEKEN strives to raise the bar. Share with us a time when you had set
and achieved a stretched target.

I would like to tell the time when I was a second year student. I undertook a newly
formed team called Creative Team at a club. as a leader, I wished to take this seriously to
develop my leadership skills as well as working with people. I remember that I took on a
team of 30 people and train them sive

But I didn’t stop there. I want to do more, give them the mentorship when we are running
projects, inspire them to become the next leaders of the club. It was really high target,
because you are now working with peole on their self-improvement and motivation. At
that time, I tried to be knowledgeable seniors first and followed up with my members
thorughout projects. Then I be an approachable one to be easy to share with my members
about their objectives. The result, I saw great improvements in both their hard skills and
soft skills and two of them were inspired to take the leadership role next.

As you can see, my responsibity was not limited, but how you set goals and commit to it,
I could have an influence over other peoplpe who believe in me.
 Why did you apply for UVTN – your motivation? What you expect to achieve
after this?

My personal goal in the next 6 months is to become a Management Trainee of an

international enterprise and the competition was really fierce to get the official offer. To
get best prepared for that goal of mine, I hone my expertise and practice a lot individually
on a nearly daily basis.

And this time going to join The Talented Candidate (UVTN), I have two main
objectives: to have a reflection on myself and my preparation via the simulation of a real
MT Program offered by UVTN and win the ticket to participate in the Assessment Camp
to meet the other 39 candidates for my networking.

Personally, the second objective is utterly important to me, I have seen great
relationship going out from this round and I truly wish to meet talented and motivating
peers with the same goals like me and develop a lasting relationships with them.

This is also the outcome I want to achieve at the end of UVTN.

 Why did you apply for Management trainee – your motivation? What you
expect to achieve after this?
I have a chance to do 2 internship in my university times at relevant sector to
Marketing. What I learned about myself is that I need more than just a typical role of a
new entry. Besides, as in the entry level, I would like to be surrounded by a clear big
picture of what big goals I have to achieve and the mentorship from great people in
front of me. And an MT programme totally fits that goal of mine.

Moreover, I want to become a person having the right of decision making, and in
my case Marketing, it would be the right to decide to choose an idea to execute for my
brand in charge and take the responsibility for that brand. I have met many seniors above
me 3-7 years who have graduated from MT and my impression with them is their
profound expertise and an impressive charisma. Therefore, with the fast track route
provided by a MT program and the changes it brings to the person who lasts, I have the
determination to successfully become a MT to realize my career path.
 gia đình mình có mấy người, đang làm nghề gì, mình thích màu gì, mình lúc
rảnh thích làm gì

Recently, in my free time, I watched the marketing campaign recap and learn
about their activation ideas. On Activation Ideas.com, there are a collection of many key
hooks from camapaigns all over the world and these are really a good source of creative
ideas for me when dealing with creative brief.

Choose one campaign and elaborate on it: Lessons in Herstory

Lessons in herstory - Rewriting HIStory with augmented reality to feature the forgotten
impact of women.

At schools, 89% of stories in US history textbooks are about men in every page of history
books.  introducing lessons in herstory. Taking advantage of the AR technology,
children could use their smartphones and scan any portrait of any man in the history
books so as to unlock a related story about a forgotten women in history.

One characteristics of history book is they stay the same in a long time – and lessons with
her story opens a whole new world.  Showing to the young girls that you can do
anything you want to.

Lot’s of stories made her confident, because she knows that she did it so the young girl at
the present can do it too. When they see themselves in the pages of yesterday, they can
truly aspire to be the leaders of tomorrow.

I would choose Lifebuoy (Detton, Savlon). For a better Vietnam. Their recent campaign
is the invisble gloves. #LifebuoyGelDietKhuanTay. Lifebuoy gel Getting rid of hand
bacteria. You cannot see it but it always there fore you.
The big idea is simple but understandable and viral themselves. Actually, from my
knowledge, the campagin has just launched recently and haven’t finished yet – but it is
now drawing the attention as I read from the news. Leveraging KOL and influencers for
the young audience (Jun Pham, Vo Hoang Yen, Quang Dai) to teasing, unbox reveal the
new products and call to action to protect their health. That is their marketing activities
above the lines.
Regarding below the line, taliking about trade marketing. There are some activities that I
noticed the last time I went to Vinsmart for shopping. They did put the new products on
the shelves but it still not stand out to me that there is a presence of such product – a
product bundling. Because of Covid-19, the brand collaborate with P/S to create a small
package of personal includes a tooth brush a tooth paste and a small dry hand wash
Lifeboyu may be for sampling. Maybe the campaign hasn’t just launched yet so the
activities has just been there.
Don’t like – actually I cannot see any shortcomings in their doings yet – I heard the
current brand manager of Lifebuoy Mr. Mai Ngoc Nhan from previous OMO – and he is
doing great. If there is a point to say, I think it would be that as a young audience I cannot
see any sight of campaign around me. I think that we are two and my friends around me
who are the target audience in this campaign now have little knowledge about the new
product.
Brand Manager what would I do – with the vision of for a better VN?? I do not know but
I will specialise on the target – the young living in the cities and the rural areas more. We
compete with unknown brands and the both targets are not considering brands as the top-
of-mind. Young – more emotional and necessary and to the rural a trade strategy on trade
to convert moms.

He want to test me whether I have done it in the right way as he has stipulated or agreed
by the both in the beginning.

 Can you give me some constructive comments so that I could fulfilled this file to
your deadline?
 Ok I got it. Is it right if I asked some questions before I leave?
 Ok, I remembered that you told me to .... but I still concern about it. Could you ...
 I will get back ealier in the day.. Hope that you could give a look?

 What would you do when members havng conflict in ideas?

Who are you?
What is a leadership time?
Which is the proudest time when you do internship?
Why you choose Marketing?
What is the most important in Marketing ?

 What if in the case of Covid-19, your marketing is interfered coniderably, what

would you do?

I think there are two things to highlight: the fast response by the teams and bring the
campaign onto digital.
First of all, check whether this will have an impact on the execution of the marketing plan
and come up with appropriate solutions – if you are deploying a digital marketing plan it
would be easier to adapt to the new situation.

Then, you have to consider in which phase your campaign is standing at and adjust your
campaign immediately. Depending on your brands relevant to the issues that is top of
mind of the customers, you will take the trend of covid-19 to convey messages relevant to
the customers in such a time.

Then, digital campaign will be a wise choice as it relieve the challenge of social distance.
People spend time at home and browsing online, so the digital touchpoints are very
important as can be seen in the last April to May. Afterwards, you will have online
activites and keep your customers engaged there to deliver your marketing plan.

 Media crisis: airlinemen covid 19 what will VN Airline do?

From my experience in such media crisis, fast apologies from the brands and take
compensatory actions to prove to the general public would be a wise choice.

In this regard, VN Airlines should send immediate apologies to the public soon,
which will show that the brand are taking responsibility for the man actions. At the same
time, tightening the security and conduct of health checking at the airport
accommodations.

Furthermore, As you can see from the negative response of the public, they
demand the airline customer service to bear the responsibily. VN Airline, should take
charge of this and update the progress of the health and duties of the man to keep the
public clear of what brand are doing.

Still, brands should show a moral support to the infected employee to get past this
hard time of work and criticsm as a company entity as well.

 Bạn nghĩ sao nếu bạn thường đi làm về nhà lúc 7-8h tối?
As an MT, I think it would be necessary for me to keep working at that time
becuase I still needs more time to hone my expertise. From my past internship, it would
be usual to get working till that hours to get things done. Even I go home, I still bring out
the laptop and keep doing my work.
But personally I think this should occur in the first 3-6 years and then I should
have more optimal workings hours. Getting to work then would means that I am an
ineffective person, if the workload is within reasons. Therefore, I will try to enhance my
productivity per hours more to go to work in the right time.
Besides, I am an early worker, so I would like to go to work early in the morning
and work the sames more hours and in the evening go home for my life stuff. It’s the
work life balance that I would have to achieve in the longterm.
 Trong gia đình, ai là người có sức ảnh hưởng đến bạn nhất?
Dad and the subject on higher education. He is the youngest of my grandfather’s child.
He emphasize the higher education a lot and I would benefit if I achieve good education.
Seeing his enormous effort keeps me striving for more to live a happy life.
Besides, he always give advice and even continual remind of keeping a good health and
remain positive in whichever situation. Yeah, he has been a grat source of motivation to
me as always.

At the beginning, I chose Marketing because it is the option that are clear what I
should do to improve my knowledge in my first year compared to other functions. And
graduualy, when I gain deeper understanding about it and took part in some contests; I
found that I love to work on the Marketing aspects of a business case (about a new
product/service idea, solving a creative brief and do the communication/activation
campaign) and I keep this option until now for the past few years. So I think I have a
huge interest in Marketing to keep me learning throughout the career path.

Besides, I discover that Marketing is very flexible in the mission of an employee.

On the one hand, you will deal with the strategic aspects of the company such as product
portfolio, market entry, the strategy to grow the brands to bring proficts to the companies.
On the other hand, you also deal with the creativity, the innovative idea by which you
bring the product/service into the market and have a compelling messages. It is this
strategy and creativity in the job of Marketing that fits with my personality and quality.

So ihe end, I feel I have the interest in Marketing, and Marketing fits me well – so
I want to define it as my longterm career path.

 “Em hiểu làm Marketing là làm gì?”

 “Trong Marketing có những mảng gì?”

Research: consumer insight, retail measurement, quantitative, qualitative

Brand Marketing: communication, agencies (creative)

Trade Marketing: point of sales activities

Digital Marketing: digital teams – media teams at agencies – publisher

Influencer Marketing: feel connected to the brand’s vision so if there is a big name
standing for what the brands aims, he or she will become the growht driver for the brands
(ex: Samsung with BTS, Pepsi with Blackpink, Lisa the ambassador of celine, BVLGARI
and some toher brands Downy to bring a refreshing image to the brands and connects
more to the famous figure that young people adores. A recent campaign by Lifebuoy has
also use this, leveraging KOL and influencers for the young audience (Jun Pham, Vo
Hoang Yen, Quang Dai) to teasing, unbox reveal the new products and call to action to
protect their health. That is their marketing activities above the lines.
Similar to micro influencer who brings an impact on the virality of the brands and
closer approach to the audience.

Digitalization- GO DIGITAL: a digital campaign idea could be executed even for

alomost any campaign by the google’s representative from the recent Vietnam Young
Lions. And personally I do believe in this, especially in the current context of Covid-19.
Unilever go online with their marketing camapgin, keep consumer engaged and they even
build their owned ecommerce site Ushop for Unilever brands.

 WHY DO YOU THINK that you are suitable with Marketing?

What I see in Marketing fits with me

What I have done with Marketing over the past 3 years at university, clubs,
contests, internships

 What is your proudest achievement? What is that end results (overcome 100
teams to represent the national)? What did you learned from this experience?

The proudest achievement it would be my participation in the Global Challenge Hult

Prize 2019 last year, our team proceeded into the regional round South East Asis. We
overcame nearly 100 teams nationwide to win this opportunity to represent VN and take
part in the regional round.

We was asked to bring bold business ideas that bring sustainable impact on the world
with every dollar earned. as we have to balance between innovation and feasibility. At
that time, we intended to work on changing the source of power that people consume
everyday. It would be usual to come up with better solar, tidal, wind power as renewable
energies.

My role in this team: Commercial aspects of the plan – including research, develop the
protoype for the product, develop the route to market plan and the final pitching :>

Learning point:

Startup ideas  the route-to-market plan  starts from the customers first and develop
ideas based on that
Pitching: pitch a whole plan in a very short time 5 minutes in the finale in fornt of 100
audience. Storytelling + QnA to persuade the judges and prove the feasibility of our
business ides.

 What is the time when you worked in unfamiliar environment? Why is it

unfamiliar? How you deal with it? Why you have little knowledge but you volunteer
to be the leader?

It would be the time when I first go to university and participated in the

recruitment season at the clubs. I remember this expereience is totally new to me becuase

This is the first time I work in a team and volunteer to be the leader

This is the first time I work on an extracurricular projects and don’t know what
checklist to fulfil. And it was harsher when I have to completed the project in three days.
The stress was enormous and I nearly have little experience before. What I did that time
was to engage every body in the brainstorming and go to seek reference from sample
proposals to add up to our projects. We did our best with the support from our mentors.

Reagrding the new people that I have to work with, little time and 9 people in a
team, to avoid conflict and ensure commnitment, set some rules before the teamwork,
Later on when make the decisions we also base on the criteria that wew have set before to
ensure the smooth process.

Proactiveness, have the resources to back up our teamwork – relevant the class monitor
before. Moreover, the leader will still have the support from member so I think
undertaking the leader role would be a more challenging and rewarding expereince for
me.

 Is there any time you take charge of a task that everyone else abandon it?
Why you take that?

In the club, you will be delegated any knind of tasks. Designing tasks are the most
abandont in a club – you have to learn to use the design tools to able to complete the task.
So at that time, because I have already
 What will you do to pump up your mood?
 Break it off for a while and swith to other tasks first.
 Reflect on my initial goals and say to myself that just try hard and I will learn
something.
 Get to do some of my hobbies I sing Japanese songs and dancing so yeah get some
time off to sing or dance and go back to work helps me to refresh my mood and be
more rational in brainstorming more.
 When is the time when work with diverse backgroung, mindset and how you
face it?

In a contest, in a teamwork round, I am the second year with many other third and fourth
year students. It was challenging for me to persuade them about my ideas at that times
becuase I seem a bit too young :v. So I just use some successful case studies in the past as
well as the data given in the case to prove my argument to them.

HSBC case competition – strategic management case – members from diversse

background – marketing – finance sales and supply chains. From a diverse background
so their perspective on the probloems would be difficult. For the preliminary round – he
first time we work with each other – our case was Facebook – a new revenue stream for
them.

The question was open-ended so I flies with my ideas a lot, for the other teammates, they
concern more about the feasibility of the idea. So balance between creative, innovative
and feasibility is difficult.

At that time, we need ideas so we put up a lot of ideas and concentrate on the quantity.
Then we filter graduaaly and pay more attention to the quality and feasibility of the idea.
At that time, I also showcased some case study of a similar idea and it becomes
successful to back up my arguments.

 What shall you do when aggressive members keep opposing your opinion?
How you persuade the people older than you?
Data driven to back up the argument – Previous successful case studies

Persuade the people – the remaining teammates easier to influence the agressive
members.

Pending the argument – not enough data to make the option. And come back later.

Go back to the initinal key question that we try to solve, set out the criteria that will make
sense and in the decsion making process we conform to it to avoid conflicts.

 Your longterm goals in 5 years?

Professional: take a brand on charge, graduation from MT, whole responsibility
for the brand performance

In life: my hobbies: dancing, Japanese,

 One failure and the lesson?

1st time in the club recruitment season,

Lead a team of 9 members and develop an external projects in three days.

Difficult: everyone was new, two members: one is falling behind with the progress and
the other do not commit to team.

Action: delegate appropriate tasks to the former, directing them what to do

The latter: show the destination – how he could learn from this team – he should prioritse
his option.

Results: we completed a master project to the seniors

But leadership was not good enough to bring the whole team with their improvements
Learning point: a leader must have knowledge, expertise to able to lead people to
achieve the results. + Interpersonal skills . Learning point when I undertake a
leader role in the second year and working in a team outside.
