Introduction to Liaquat medical hospital

Liaquat University hospital is a government hospital placed in Jamshoro, it is a

1450 bed tertiary care hospital in Pakistan ,it is one of the largest teaching hospitals affiliated
with Liaquat University of Medical and health science , the first medical university of the public
sector in Pakistan and function as civil hospital Hyderabad affiliated with the Bombay faculty of
Medicine in 1918 that providing services in departments of pediatrics, Cardiology, Nuclear
Medicine, Trauma and Orthopedic surgery, Accident and Emergency, Neuro Surgery obs and
Gynae and many more.

Mission:

Liaquat medical hospital is committed to serving all residents of Jamshoro and

Hyderabad. We provide a comprehensive health services, ranging from wellness and primary
care to the most complex specialty care and post-acute services. Our care reflects a patients
centered approach and our services are delivered in an exceptional manner, with benchmark
performance in clinical outcomes, care processes, cost-effectiveness, and patient experience.
With our unique blend of academic and other healthcare partners, we play a special role in
supporting medical education and research in our region.

Objectives:

As a core center of local hospitals in Jamshoro prefecture, helping to provide

community based high quality medical care and improving the primary care and providing
holistic medicine for patients. Practicing multidisciplinary medical care (advanced emergency
care, intensive care, perinatal care and diagnosis and therapy of cancers) by closely
collaborating with other professionals in order to eliminate any existing barriers between
various medial fields, and promoting highly-advanced medical treatment( transplantation
medicine, functional surgery, tailor-made medicine relying on genetic analyses, etc ), and
promoting medical cooperation between local hospitals.

Structure of the Liaquat medical hospital

An organizational structure defines how activities such as task allocation, coordination

and supervision are directed towards the achievements of organization aims. Organizations
need to be efficient, flexible, innovative and caring in order to achieve a sustainable competitive
advantages.

In other words organization refers to levels of managements within a hospitals, and

levels allow efficient managements of hospitals departments. The structure helps one
understand the hospital’s chain of command and hospital departments are grouped in order to
promote efficiency of facility. Liaquat hospital is generally divide in four groups according to
similarity of duties.

 Support services

Administrative services:

Hospital administrators :CEO, Vice President, Executive Assistant, Department

heads.

Business people who run the hospital oversee budgeting and finance .

Provides treatments to the patients , includes following departments

Physical Therapy: Treatment to improve large muscle mobility.

Occupational Therapy: Treatment goal is to help patient regain fine

motor skills.

Speech/language pathology: Identify, evaluate, treat

speech/language disorders.

Respiratory Therapy: Treat patients with heart and lung disease.

Medical Psychology: Concerned with mental well-being of patients.

Social Services: Connect patients with community resources (financial

aid etc)

Pharmacy: Dispense medications

Diagnostic Services:

Determines the causes of illness or injury. Includes

Medical laboratory -study body tissues

Provides support for entire hospital ,includes

Central supply: orders, receives, stocks and distributes equipment and supplies.

Function of Liaquat medical hospital:

The Liaquat hospitals started functioning as civil hospitals Hyderabad , initially

established in 1881 to provide basic facilities, the hospitals has 1450 beds across in various
departments. Which are department of medicine ,Pediatrics, Cardiology, Pulmonology(chest
medicine),Dermatology, Gastroenterology, family medicine, Nuclear medicine, Psychiatry , and
so on.

Liaquat medical hospitals is fully aware of the leadership role as well as its
responsibilities for promoting a medical research and improving health care facilities.

Liaquat hospital is a vast mendicity, well equipped with modern apparatus. All type
of treatment and investigation are provided free of charge, a few treatments are charged for at
minimum of rates.

Liaquat medical hospital facilitate implementation of healthy child year program and
Resolve complains of patients by coordinating with respective department. Enlighten and
facilitate patients and senior citizens about free services of civil hospital.

The department of administration of Liaquat medical hospital through being support

services department, is one of the crucial department for effective and efficient functioning and
rendering quality services to the patients approaching Liaquat hospital from across the
Jamshoro. Under the leadership of medical Superintendent the Administration department
have three departments i-e General Administration, Administration nursing and accounts.

The administration department works towards providing to patient with the best
possible services through proper infrastructure, maintenance, operational capacity and
organization awareness to meet all conditions and treatments requirements in a highly reliable
manner and continue to create a culture which reflects a value for safe work practices,

accomplishes established strategic goals, encourages entrepreneurial spirt an attitude of

ownership for the facility and operations and that rewards extraordinary accomplishments .

Weaknesses of Liaquat medical hospital:

Weaknesses of Liaquat Medical hospital

 Liaquat hospital has lack of resources as well as lack of proper duty of doctors, where
doctors are present but they are helpless due to absence of proper resources to treat
their patients.
 Another weakness is fund allocation (budgeting) the government which is unable to
provide the required funds (budget) to hospital and also the allocation of funds is
mishandled.
 Lack of resources and lack of management of Liaquat hospitals leads to poor sanitation
and hyenic condition of wards and emergency rooms.
 At Liaquat medical hospital the earning of doctors is very low and as such, they don’t
show any interest.
 And other problem is fake medicine, recently most of people died because of these fake
medicines, specially the people who suffer from heart problem.
 Free health care services includes only some basic treatment and for advanced
diagnosis, people have to turn to the more expensive private medical treatment free
health care usually covers only the most common treatment and the lack of doctors and
trained nurses make it worse.
 The Liaquat medical hospital do not have the latest medical equipment and they used
old technologies to treat and diagnosis a patients. This is not the best way to serve the
patient. A single doctor has to meet and take care of a large no of patients and this is
detrimental for patients with the severe condition.

Activities done in Liaquat medical hospital:

I started my volunteer internship work from on 21 st of November on the first day of

my internship, I meet with assistant medical superintendent of Liaquat medical hospital he
appointed me as in internee at OPD to provide my services and efforts to serve patients.
It was my first experience at there I felt my self lucky because it was honor for me to
represent my university as well as my department at Liaquat medical hospital.
I have done 4 days internship at the OPD of Liaquat medical hospital under the
supervision pf OPD incharge Dr Amanullah Ogahi. he was such a great man and cooperative to
me and he guided me very well about my work even there staff was very cooperative.
I started my volunteer internship work at reception of OPD, I have worked at reception
as a internee, first of all it was very difficult to me to manage to receptions because there were
large number of patients came there, it was very difficult to deal with them same how I
manage the reception timing starts with early morning 8am to 5 pm, approximately 200 to 500
hundreds receipts on daily basis.
The process of receipts including the name of the patients, gender, age, date, consulted
Doctor etc.
The other activity I have done most of the people they came from Trible areas same
how they feel difficult to get there medicine from pharmacy we were guiding the patients about
medicines written in their medicine paper given by doctor and also helping them to take
medicine from the pharmacy .
We were serving the patients on the gate there were many disable patients, we were
moving them by wheel chair to the ward where they needed to go etc.
We spent time with children at there who were suffering from many kind of diseases
and some time we also bring juices for them.
I have done this work continuously for four days and providing my best services and
efforts to serve the patients.

Serving the community:

In our daily routine we are strictly stuck with things that earn profit in any kind. We
remain busy down in ourselves and pass our time in carrier racing. Instead of this we often see
people around us who were helping poor and people who offer them food when they are
hungry and couldn’t pay for it.
Most of people are think that who they are and why they are helping us and them
without any interest or benefit and why many of human welfare organization are playing vital
role to manage inflation by helping, financing, and offer food free of cost, medical treatment
delivering motivational work by every mean they can.
So the simple answer is that they are the people who surely wants to help humanity and care
about humanity and they feel comfort in doing this.
So I am about to share our experience of putting a step in this might ocean, we had to
serve human and urge others to do it as we may able to create a chain so I preferred to select
the hospital to do my volunteer internship , I worked there as a volunteer with spirt and
interest and I tried to help the patients as much as I can.
I choose Liaquat medical hospital for delivering our services and I went there for four
days and met with MS after showing the letter issued by IBA he said you are welcome go and
do the work what you can do I did it with true spirit to help patients there and also stimulate
and motivate people around there. In the last day I got appreciated by MS of hospital and other
doctors and I feel very happy when I saw high strength in people around there for keeping
trust in themselves for serving the community.
I have worked four days at Liaquat medical hospital in OPD for non profit volunteer
community internship. There two doctors and three-four nurses are always available for the
treatment of the patients . They work with sincerity and heartly and their management level is
so better than past . They said our government has provided all instruments of treatment of
patients. There is no any charge to the patients , we provide full free medicines and check up,
and almost we observed and asked to the patients they said we are satisfied to the cooperation
of doctors and staff .

Conclusion:

From this internship I have learnt lots of things which were concerned with my
department and also much many things which were not concerned with my department but are
very important according to the social life and education point of view. From this internship I
have learnt how to manage the organization how to control the staff how to deal with
different people how to impress the others and how to be the part of any organization

The main conclusion of this internship that I have observed is how to build up the self
confidence in addition to this I have also learn the office work and documentary work. From
this internship I have get experience of work that is concerned with my department which will
be helpful for me in future as well.

Suggestions:

 The government must increase the budget for health care and reforms the sectors.
 Its important to create an awareness program that focusses on how one should behave
and follow procedure that maintain the cleanliness of hospitals. Spitting and gutka on
the walls and throwing wrappers and other waste in hallways and rooms can be
prevented by spreading awareness.
 The government should implement policy to control the corruption, and establish to add
further effectiveness in enhancing quality of health.
 The government should establish institutions and make some special teams whose only
duty should be to check and apprehend such people as are involved in the business of
fake medicines.
 The government should provide latest equipment to doctors and make the things
better. All over Pakistan there is not a single government hospital which has pure water.
Most of the patients drinks unhealthy water and then fall sick again.
 My request to Sindh government is to improve the working of all public hospitals.
