1. Awiyao and Lumnay’s house signifies their union as married couples.

But upon describing, the

dark refers to the sad and lonely feeling Lumnay feels now that they are separating. Light was
being a symbol of hope that was kept kindling in the dark. It was tiny glimpse of hope that all
will return or get better soon.
2. Lumnay is a wonderful woman, always takes care of Awiyao, but she could not bear a child. She
is very sentimental and cannot accept the fact that Awiyao is no longer hers. Awiyao is the
former husband of Lumnay. Since during their time it was very important to have a successor,
Awiyao had to leave Lumnay as it was the order of the elders of their village.
3. Lumnay was thinking that she can still change the decisions of the elders as she will try her best
to persuade their minds and make them see that Awiyao is only hers to have. She was thinking
that her act will end the unwritten rule that looms over their village and Awiyao will back her up.
4. I was hopeful for a moment that Lumnay would eat up her courage to do what she think was
right, but in vain. I also thought that Awiyao would differ from the norms and values of the
village as they prove that their love is real and stronger than any unwritten rule.
5. Lumnay was the type of woman who has a lot thoughts in her head but is too scared to raise her
voice. If I was in her position, I will do what I think is right in the name of love and go against the
rules and norms of the society they live in. I will not care on what the decisions of the elders will
be if they would cast us out or not, but if they do, I am willing to turn my back on everyone and
start a new life together with Awiyao.
6. I was a bit sad and frustrated. I cannot tell if Awiyao really loved Lumnay because of what he
did. It seems like it was just easy for him to let Lumnay go and find another woman. It also
shows how weak he is as a man with no words of affirmation.
