10 Read this article on the London 2012 Olympics.

London 2012 Olympics


T he 2012 Summer Olympics took place in London and the south of England from 27 July until
1 e August. Before they started, most people didn’t think that they would be very good and
they were not happy that the Games were so expensive (2 d ) but after they finished everyone
who likes sport agreed that they were fantastic! The weather was sunny and warm every day and
people were happy.
Over 10,000 athletes came to London from all over the world and there were more than 3 b tickets
to the different events: tennis, judo, swimming, cycling, football, windsurfing, athletics and many
more. There really was something for everyone.
There was women’s boxing for the first time. Andy Murray won a gold medal for Team
GB in the tennis. Michael Phelps of the USA won his 22nd gold medal in swimming. There
were 86 new world records and 962 medals. The USA was at the top of the table with
4 a gold medals, China had 38, Team GB had 29 and were in 3rd place, with Spain in 21st position
with 5 c gold medals (two for sailing and one for taekwondo).
