1973 Constitution

Constitution- is a set of rules that guides how a


country state or other political organization
works.
Ferdinand E. Marcos- was the first president to
be re-elected in 1973 Constitution.
Important features of 1973 Constitution
1. Content of the Constitution
- composed of preamble and 17 articles.
2. Established a prime minister and a president
- 1973 constitution established with himself
as both president and prime minister by the
national assembly.
3. Legislative Power
- was given to the president in and acting
laws composedly to avoid the uprising of the
New Peoples Army, also the justices of the
court appointed by the president alone without
consent or approval of anybody/officials.
4. Parity Rights
- President Marcos terminated the Parity
Rights.
5. Emphasizes the Duties and Obligation
- Article 5 of the 1973 Constitution. It shall
be the duty of the citizen to be loyal to the
republic, honor the Philippine flag, defend the
state.

- Rule of law usually issued by a head of
state such as the president.

- Democratizing Educational Opportunities
promoting the Study Now Pay Later Plan.

- No educational institution shall be
established exclusively for aliens.

Strengths and weaknesses of the 1973
Constitution
Strengths
●The constitution ensures the citizens of
the Philippines its health, education, and
security.
●Constitution led the records and books of
account of each member to the public.
●The natural resources of the Philippines
are limited to the citizen itself.
●Constitution ratifies the rights of the
workers.
●Constitution allows everyone the right to
vote no gender role.
●Maintaining and preserving of the Filipino
culture.
Weaknesses
●The constitution allowed Marcos to rule
by decree until the year 1978.
●In 1981 martial law was officially lifted
but Marcos continued to rule by the expedient
of being re-elected in the force of an election.
●Having to hold on power corruption
allowed Marcos and his wife Imelda to live
extravagantly causing resentment domestically
and criticism internationally.
●The 1973 constitution had become the
downfall of Marcos administration as Filipinos
unified to once again achieve democracy.
