ATEDIERS FRANCOIS 40 BAR - PET - COMPRESSORS OIL « FREEly AF History Ateliers Frangois SA, was created and founded in 1960 but it roots go much further back in bistory, it came into being initially as the Francois Company in 1870 ! This company produced pneumatic hammers for tunnelling. By 1896 it transformed into Moteurs to build bigh speed steam engines but by the early 1900s were manufacturing reciprocating compressors for the coal industry. Nearly 50 years later the company was reformed as Moteurs & Frangois Réunis and over the next two decades this company continued to develop its heavy-duty compressors expecially for the steel Industry with powers up to 750 HP Afier 1960 when Ateliers Frangois was formed, a range of oil free reciprocating compressors with PTFE piston rings were developed and these successfully operated when high quality air was needed in the brewing, chemical, petro-chemical, pharma- ceutical and food industries. The early 1980's saw the first entry, into the world of bottling liquids, of PET material To form bottles, which are blown into a mould, required much higher than normal pres- sure of air and AF were to realise that this was an emerging market of importance and designed a range of 40 bar oil free compressors to meet this need. Since then itis now common to see, mineral water, carbonated soft drinks, fruits juices, edible oil, vinegar, beer, wines, medicines and perfume all in PET bottles and AF's Production is almost totally now in 40 bar oil free compressors for this application. Piston rods are made of a high resilient stainless steel and chromium plated to provide a hard wearing surface. @ CROSSHEADS The ratio between the connecting rod length and crank radius (nearly 5) and the large pressure lubricated area of the crosshead and guides ensures optimum life. @ CONNECTING RODS : The white-metal connecting rod main bearings are inherently long life items. All bearings are pressure lubricated by a gear driven pump. @ CRANKSHAFT : The crankshaft is supported by two self aligning bearings having two rows of generously dimensioned rollers to ensure perfect alignment. Counterweights attached to the crankshaft provide excellent balance. Rotational speeds range between only 400 and 670 rpm.AF - economy Ateliers Francois 3-stage oil-free compressors are very simple in design. Low maintenance ~ only two connecting rods and associated bearings, ~ only two crosshead assemblies, ~ no piston rod packing on 3rd stage, eliminates sealing against 40 bar, - single acting 2nd & 3rd stages, requiring less valves, ~ heaviest stage is vertical, giving less wear, + lighter 2nd & 3rd stages are horizontal, optimizing piston ring life.
