Demographics and Description of My Cultural Ingroup

I come from Henan Province, the central place of China, and I am a girl in my
twenties. When it comes to shared values, what comes first to my mind is Islamic
value because my family members all believe in Islam, so our life is mostly guided
by Islamic culture.

2. My Key Cultural Value and Key Personal Value

I think “To have faith in Allah and follow the saint Muhammad” is the most
important value of my cultural ingroup. And “trustworthiness” is a value that I
hold important.

3. My Explanation of Each Selected Value

(1) Shared culture value: What is consistent in my culture community is the

value of “To have faith in Allah and follow the saint Muhammad”. What this means is
that first, we people believe that human beings are created by our only god Allah
because no other theory or statement can convince people about the origin of
human beings, and the holy book Koran that Allah gives people are full of wisdom
and knowledge. Besides, it is our saint Muhammad who spread Islam and Koran to
humans, and as a saint, he set a very good example for people as we could see lots of
virtues in him. And I think this is why we hold this value as the most important.
(2) Distinct personal value: Personally speaking, I think “trustworthiness” is very
important because I think this is a basic quality of human beings. In my interaction
with others, I will first test if the person is trustworthy or not. If not, I probably will
not establish a relationship with him or her because I am afraid that I will be
betrayed one day out of his or her untrustworthiness.
