EMBRYOLOGY OF THE BREAST

Apart from the 5 and 6 weeks of gestation in humans, regardless of sex, the
ectoderm begins to develop, it is one of the three layers of the primitive
embryonic disc, showing thickening, on both sides of the body, which goes
from the armpit to the inguinal area, which is called the mammary crest.

This chalk is made up of eight glandular points, which are located in a linear
way, which is also called the milk line.
One of these points develops more when one reaches adulthood where an
evolutionary change is evidenced until maturity.

The remaining points suffer atrophy, but sometimes some of these can
continue as rudimentary tissues along the length of the mammary chalk,
which is why we see humans with three nipples, or additional breasts
without a mammary gland.
These remains are called polythelia if they are nipples and polymathy in case
it is another breast.
