The Solar System

The Solar System

- It is the system of the Sun and
other objects orbiting in it.
- This system lies in an outer arm of
the Milky Way Galaxy, which is one of
the galaxies.
1. The Sun
- It is the only star in the solar system
and it is also the center of it.

- The Sun is round in shape and is 109

times larger than Earth.
2. Natural Satellites of the Sun

- They are 8 planets and their natural

satellites or moons, dwarf planets,
asteroid, comets, meteorites and other
space objects.
1. Planets
-Are the natural satellites of the
sun.
- There are 8 planets.
Based on the time of orbit

Interior planets are Superior planets are

the planets closer to the the planets which are
Sun than Earth. Their farther from the Sun
time of orbit is shorter than Earth. Their time
than Earth. of orbit is longer than
Earth.

Mercury Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune

Based on Surface
1. Rocky planets are the planets with
hard and rocky surfaces. They are
covered with thin layers of air.
These planets are:
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
2. Gas planets are the planets covered with
gases. Some of them are made of a small
rock in the center.
These planets are:
Jupiter
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune
1. Mercury
• The smallest of the 8 planets.
• It’s a bit bigger than Earth’s moon.
• It is closest to the sun.
• It is called the Swift Planet. Because
it takes the shortest time to orbit the
sun.
2. Venus
• It is the
2 nd planet from the Sun.
• It is almost the same size as Earth so
its called Earth’s Twin.
• It is the brightest among the 8
planets.
Morning Star
We can see Venus rise in the east 3
hours before sunrise or at dawn.

Evening Star
We can also see it set in the west 3
hours before sunset.
3. Earth
• It is the 3 planet from the Sun.
rd

• ¾ of the Earth’s surface is water. It is

the only planet in the solar system
with water, It is called the Water
Planet.
• It has 1 natural satellite which is
