SPEAKING ACTIVITIES - WEEK 13

First read this page and get ready to do the activities. You will find several speaking tasks that
you have to record for your teacher. Then, you will receive a document with corrections and
comments specially written for you to improve your speaking skills.

Find a quiet place at home and a recording device (it does not have to be anything sophisticated,
just your phone could do). You can do all the tasks in just one recording or one recording per
task. When you have all of them, name your file(s) with your name_surnames_C1_W13.

If you create more than one recording, please name them as follows:

and so on.

Read the following extract from a news story published in The Guardian on 27 th May. Then,
summarise the contents of the extract and provide your opinion on the topic in a maximum
of 2 minutes.

TASK 2
Discuss 2 pros and 2 cons of ecotourism in 3 min. You have 2 minutes to prepare. The ideas
below are here to help you. You can use them or come up with your own pros and cons.
Pros
1. Local economies make money in a sustainable way.
2. It allows people to see unspoilt destinations and meet local cultures.
3. It is very affordable.
4. It is a way to create good paying jobs for local workers.

Cons
1. Damage to nature can occur.
2. Cultural changes may occur.
3. Ecotourism could be problematic if activities aren’t locally managed.
4.Travel impacts on the environment.
