A decision is one when there are different things you

can do and you pick one of them. You make lots of
decisions everyday!
Decisions of health care managers
• Health care managers always choose between
options , this is called Decision making.
• E.g Some times when situations is critical, the
health administrator should have the last
word.
• It should be given first priority to the severity.
• There are may be shortage of health service
• The health care administrator or manager has
to decide which one should be given the
health service first.
• It should be fair and justice
• It should not be chosen by other means

DEFINITION – Problem Solving

Problem solving is directed at achieving

a goal where no solution method is
obvious to the problem solver.
 Problem solving in health care
sector
• Like any other sector, health care needs
problem solving.
• It has many workers with different
specializations, hence conflicts and problems
will arise .
• Health care administrator have to take away
the roadblocks and try to find solution in a
possible manner.
 Conflict in health care sector
• Outbreaks which kills thousands can be
number one conflict which faces the health
care sector.
• Ministry of health has to solve this problem
and take the necessary precautions to save
the nation and states.
• Shortage of health services is another conflict
which needs to be addressed by the health
care management

DEFINITION – Decision Making
 The act of narrowing down the possibilities, choosing a
course of action and determining the action’s
potential consequences.
 How to narrow the possibilities
• In front of the health care manager, there may
be several opportunities which each one of
them may lead to specific bath.
• E.g Minister of Health needs to nominate a
doctor to a position in the MOH.
• The minister will need to choose between
many doctors.
• There by decision making will be quite
necessary
 What does it Involve??
 Problem Solving is a Skill, a Tool and a Process.

 It is a Skill because once you have learnt it you can

use it repeatedly.

 Like the ability to ride a bicycle, or

 Add numbers or
 Speak a language.
 The skill of problem solving
• As a health care manger, you should be
equipped with certain skills.
• One of the most necessary skils you need to
have is the problem solving.
• Like many organizations which exist, the
health organizations’ manager or
administrator has to have the necessary
problem solving skills.

 Collect.

 Compare.

 Consider.

 Commit.
