Overfishing and the Solutions Needed to Help

Overfishing has been a global problem for years and is affecting the ocean greatly. This

article caught my eye because it also is focusing on some ways we can help this huge problem

for the present and future. Overfishing is a huge problem and this article gives some possible

answers.

The author focused greatly on ending overfishing and attempting to find long-term

solutions to it. In this article, she displays the Transition Design approach and her experiences

with it. She sees the Transition Design as powerful and something that should be in the toolkit of

oceanographers or wild-life advocates. Dahle worded it beautifully in stating that the Transition

Design “is exactly the right lens to discover where human behavior is the barrier to change, and

what to do about it.” She believes that the Transition Design is the best way to find truly

beneficial solutions to overfishing and is the first step in the right direction.

This has to do with my presentation assignment because my group is focusing on

overfishing/habitat destruction. Overfishing is unfairly looked over and, if it continues, our

present world will be majorly hurt. I like this topic a lot and reading this article gave me, not

only a great overview on overfishing and Dahle’s Transition Design experience, but the biology

aspect that I need to pinpoint on for my personal part of the assignment.

This topic truly interests me and I am glad I read this article on some solutions being

looked into to fix or lessen this ocean crisis. Overfishing needs to stop and the Transition Design

is a great step in the right direction.
