Portfolio first draft
Carlos Enrique Osorno Velásquez - 1.015.461.702
David Santiago Ovalle Caviedes - 1.016.111.588.

Think about the following questions to write a draft for Monday, March 1st. Try to answer
the questions as a whole, instead of going over individual answers.

1. What areas of interest do I have in my major? Are there any relevant academic
pieces of work or working experience I want others to see?
2. What kind of work experience do I want to have once I finish with my current
studies? Why?
3. What do I plan to do in order to get to the job/jobs that I dream of having?
4. Which way do I consider to show the contents in my portfolio? Do I want to
continue working with ideas I have already done, or should I consider any other
options? Why?
Solution
1. Answer: in civil engineering there are several specialties, among these are areas
such as: Structures, hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnics, traffic and transportation,
projects management, etc.
The specialty that has interested me the most is geotechnics, since I made my first
approach in the geology course, I knew that I wanted to specialize in this branch due
to the close relationship with nature and the environment in which we find ourselves
in Colombia geographically.
Maybe my relevant academic pieces of work is one of I did a fairly detailed
investigation of the earthquake in the Colombian coffee region in 1999, especially
in the city of Armenia-Quindio, where an approach is made to the structural damage
that occurred and the possible solution given by the NSR-10 (earthquake norm
standard).
2. I would like to start working in something related to the field of geothechnics and
gain the most experience in that field.
3. Specialize and learn a lot about the subject with a master’s degree and maybe if I
can one day a doctorade.
4. I think the best thing is to mix a little the things that I have already done with those
that I plan to do, to have a more global vision.
