2 TEJB7057 Cat 730 and D300E Series II Articulated Trucks October 2000
Introduction

The Cat 730 is a direct replacement for the D300E Series II articulated truck.
The 27.2-metric ton (30-short ton) truck offers improved performance,
smoother ride, enhanced comfort and a better view of the job site. In
Caterpillar production studies, these improvements resulted in 25.3 percent
higher fuel efficiency and enhanced productivity.

Cat engineers have combined the best features of the E Series II with the
advanced designs of the 700 Family. The 730 incorporates extensive changes,
which are concentrated primarily on the tractor. The new styling and cab are
the most obvious, but major changes also include a new engine and
transmission, new front frame, new suspension system and new hitch. The
previous E Series II changes focused on the trailer and drivetrain, and many of
these improvements are carried over largely unchanged.

This bulletin compares the specifications, features and benefits of the

Caterpillar 730 with those of the D300E Series II. The 730 offers major
improvements in five key areas:

• Performance and productivity

• Durability and reliability
• Operator comfort
• Ease of operation
• Serviceability

The 730 increases our advantages over the competition and sets a new
standard for reliability, durability and performance in its size class.
