meaning "Good luck!" as a casual parting phrase just like in English.

The Focus of This Lesson Is Possession.
นี่นามบัตรของผมครับ.
nîi naam-bàt khǎawng phǒm khráp.
"This is my name card."
We use the preposition ของ (kwǎawng), meaning "of," to show possession with the following
formula: thing + ของ (kwǎawng) + owner. We form possesive adjectives such as "his," "my,"
and "our" by ของ (kwǎawng) + pronoun. For example, ของคุณ (kwǎawng-khun) means
"your." To say "this is my hat," we would say นี่หมวกของผม (nîi mùuak khǎawng phǒm). We
can use the same pattern for "our."
For Example:
1. ประเทศไทยเปนประเทศของพวกเรา
bprà-thêet-thai bpen bprà-thêet khǎawng phûuak-rao.
"Thailand is our country."
For Example:
1. หมวกของสตีฟ
mùuak khǎawng sà-thíip.
"Steve's hat"
CULTURAL INSIGHT
Thai people usually have two names: a given name and a family name. The family name
comes after the given name, just as with Western names. We use the word khun with
someone's name to say "Mr. so-and-so," but unlike English, we use it with people's first

names. Because of this habit, you will often hear Thais address foreigners as Mr. John, Mr.
Michael, or Mrs. Nancy when they speak English.
Thai names are often quite long. It is more common for Thai people to refer to each other by
their nicknames in daily life. Thai nicknames are usually just one syllable. Some are animals
like nók ("bird"), some are just nonsense sounds like bpúp-bpík, and still others are taken
from English words such as àep-bpôen ("apple").
