Exercise 1: Paragraph Writing

Based on my knowledge about the lesson, my contentions regarding about this statement
is a Fact claim because it debates on whether the statement is ‘true or false’ which is about how
the Public officials mislead the people on the reality of what is happening. This claim can be
supported through factual claims and evidence caused by the corrupt public officials. Though,
some public officials did fight for what is better for the society and the well-being of the citizens.
Just by reading the statement, you can see that it is a controversial claim as it needs facts to
support and prove in order to be accepted by an audience. To support why this is a fact claim, we
can focus on the observation on why the public officials are trying to mislead the people. People
say that it only ‘claims’ to be a fact which makes it arguable since we know that public officials
have plenty of responsibilities for a wide range of areas in their work in maintaining order and
law so they can’t do their project immediately as it takes a lot of time. I am confident that this
statement does not try to mislead people on the reality, instead it is shielding them from the
bigger picture in which may be dangerous for us. Though, there are few who exploit their power
as they abuse lowly people but not all of them are like that. In the definition of fact claim, it
states here that it is an arguable claim that has no direct way of establishing the truth which can
be referred to the statement given that some public officials are ‘trying’ to mislead the citizens
since there are public officials who actually do their work to help the society grow and prosper.
Therefore, I can conclude that my argument about this fact claim is that not all public officials
have malice in mind.
