SCHOOL EXAM PROJECT

(ACID AND ALKALINE EXPERIMENT USING NATURAL INDICATOR)

 Experimen Steps

1. Grind turmeric until smooth using a mortar and pestle. Then, add water sufficiently. Stir
until the turmeric mixes with water
2. Strain to get turmeric extract
3. Pour turmeric extract into a plastic cup
4. This extract that I will use to test the character of acids and bases through color change
5. Here, I have prepared hot water and a few strands of telang flowers in a measuring cup
6. Then, brew the telang flowers by pouring 100 mL of water into a measuring cup
7. After a while, the color of the liquid will change to dark blue and the extract can be use as
a natural indicator
8. After letting the water of the telang flower simmer until it is not hot, I pour it into a plastic
cup
9. This extract that I will use to test the character of acids and bases through color changes
10. Before, I already pick red spinach leaves. Then, put it in a blender and add enough water
11. Then, blend the purple cabbage until smooth and become a juice
12. Strain the red spinach juice using a filter cloth or strainer so that there are no lumps,
resulting in a red spinach extract
13. This extract that I will use to test the properties of acids and alkalis through color change
 Acid and Base Test with Natural Indicators

1. In this step, I will test the 3 natural indicators there are turmeric, red spinach, and telang
flowers.
2. With a solution of vinegar which has a pH of about 3, detergent which has a pH of about
14, and salt water which is neutral with a pH of 7. Each one is poured into a plastic glass
as high as one knuckle.
3. Then, pour one until two tablespoons of each extract into each plastic glass which contains
vinegar, detergent, and salt water
