Job Title: Testing Manager
1. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
The testing manager will be responsible for the day to day management of system and
functional testing of applications. Structured testing is required, ensuring the quality of
software releases.
2. POSITION IN ORGANISATION
Reports to the Development Divisional Head.
Direct contact with Internal and external clients at a user and project Management level.
Liaises at all levels internally and externally.
Responsible for performance management of testing team Leaders.
Key contributor to departmental meetings and divisional meetings.
3. SCOPE OF JOB
Leadership – provide leadership and direction to the Testing Team.
Testing – identify and meet demand for testing define and maintain test strategies
and plans.
Delivery & Quality Management – responsible for leading the team and supporting
assigned work packages to deliver work to agreed timescales and quality.
Performance Management & Improvement – Contribute to the continual
improvement of testing team and methods.
Processes and Tools – promoting & enforcing the effective use of processes and tools
within the teams and assigned work packages; proactively recommending improvements
and new approaches.
Technical & Commercial Knowledge – maintains an understanding of requirement
applications, architecture and technologies together with a good awareness of the
Insurance Industry, clients and commercial activities.
4. DIMENSIONS & LIMITS OF AUTHORITY
Oversee allocation and control of team resources, supported by team leaders.
Directs the recruitment strategy.
Performs return to work and attendance interviews of team leaders.
Development and implementation of improved work practices.
Responsible for the management and performance of all staff in their team, ensuring the
team have the relevant level of resources, skills & experience to meet the business needs.
Performing 1‐2‐1s, proactively dealing with people issues, staff motivation & development.
Overtime preauthorization (following request from relevant the Work Package
Coordinator) and overtime completion authorization (following confirmation from the
relevant Work Package Coordinator).
Perform any other activities as reasonably requested by your line manager.

5. QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum HND or equivalent, preferably degree in a relevant subject.
Specialist skills and knowledge of software development methodologies gained
through formal training.
6. PROVEN ABILITY
Supervising test teams
Performance improvement initiatives and managing change
Strong commercial awareness and customer focus
Experience and knowledge of software development processes and tools
A previous technical software development role would be an advantage
Use of an agile development methodology would be an advantage
Experience of the insurance industry would be an advantage
Duties & Key Responsibilities:
Leadership supervision:
Support the Divisional head with successfully completing the implementation of
divisional objectives.
Communicate & cascade company and divisional objectives to team.
Supervise work and be responsible for the work produced by the team ensure
development plans are implemented.
Proactively improve application, technical and industry domain knowledge within the
team.
Motivation of team members to meet delivery / performance targets.
Perform regular team meetings to review progress with initiatives, projects,
performance within the team and to provide a company news update.
Lead by example, communicate company policies and ensure compliance within the team
Perform return to work and attendance interviews, escalate disciplinary issues.
Participate in recruitment process.
Review resource levels, skills/experience and tools against current / future business
requirements to formulate resource plans.
Ensure issues are escalated appropriately with suggested solutions and their
progress is communicated in a timely manner.
Delivery & Quality Management
Ensure all work produced meets customer requirements before being released for
internal approval.
Support Team Leaders in allocation of work effectively within the team.

Performance Management & Improvement
Monitor and proactively improve quality and delivery performance at team level.
Use each information to support monitoring / analysis.
Monitoring department performance against objectives, addressing poor and
recognizing good performance.
Carry out staff appraisals and regular 1 to 1s for team members.
Provide feedback on performance to the team and individuals.
Incident Management
Monitor and proactively improve response and resolution of support incidents across the
team to meet service levels agreed by the business.
In a timely manner assist & advise internal & external customers on any escalated issues.
Process & Tool Improvement
Ensure compliance with development processes within the team & work packages.
Proactively recommend changes and/or new approaches to processes to support
performance improvement within the team & work packages.
Proactively recommend changes to and/or new tools to support performance
improvement within team & work packages.
Maintain knowledge of software development best practice to use as a guide for
potential.

HND: Higher national qualification
HNC: Higher national certificate
The HND in Construction Management (SCQF level 8) builds on the knowledge and skills of the HNC
and covers construction industry fundamentals and planning, health and safety and human resource
management in construction, managing construction organizations, and quality in construction.
The HNC in Construction Management (SCQF level 7) develops knowledge and skills in areas such as
construction materials and specifications, site surveying, construction technology
(substructure/industrial/commercial superstructure), site administration, and standard forms of
construction contracts.
At both levels, candidates will develop contemporary vocational skills including study, research,
analysis, planning and organizational skills. They will also learn to take responsibility for their own
learning and the ability to be flexible and to work co‐operatively with others.
This qualification is available through colleges, training providers and some universities. Typically, an
HNC takes one year to complete and an HND takes two years.
