ABSTRACT

Background: Raw betel nut juice is an herbal plant that is widely consumed by the majority of
people who are believed to treat diseases such as wounds, diarrhea, intestinal worms and other
diseases. Based on several studies, betel nut contains arekolin at a dose of 10 g / KgBW can
damage tissues such as the liver, testes and kidneys. There are no studies on the effect of young
areca seed juice on cell counts in the cerebrum.

Purpose: This study is a preliminary test to see the effect of areca juice for 45 days on the number
of cells in the cerebrum.

Methods: The experimental animal was Rattus norvegicus Sprague Dawley strain, 2-3 months,
weight 150-200 grams which had been acclimatized and divided randomly into 2 groups, group
I was given distilled water, group II was given young areca juice at a dose of 10 gr / KgBW. The
treatment was given once a day for 45 days. The examination was carried out by looking at the
number of cells in the cerebrum that had been stained with Hematoxillin Eosin, then observed
using a light microscope with a magnification of 400 times in 15 fields of view by counting the
number of cells regardless of cell type.

Results: The results of histopathological examination showed a significant decrease in the

number of cells in the cerebrum of mice given betel nut juice 10 gr / KgBW compared to the
control group.

Conclusion: Raw areca nut (Areca catechu L.) juice can reduce the number of cells in the
cerebrum of white rats (Rattus novregicus).

ABSTRAK

Latar belakang: Jus pinang muda merupakan tumbuhan herbal yang banyak dikonsumsi oleh
sebagian besar masyarakat yang dipercaya sebagai mengobati penyakit seperti luka, diare,
cacingan dan penyakit lainnya. Berdasarkan beberapa studi sebelumnya, pinang mengandung
arekolin dengan dosis 10 gr/KgBB dapat merusak jaringan seperti hepar, testis dan ginjal. Belum
ada penelitian tentang efek jus biji pinang muda terhadap jumlah sel pada cerebrum.
Tujuan: Penelitian ini merupakan uji pendahuluan untuk melihat efek jus pinang selama 45 hari
terhadap jumlah sel pada cerebrum.
Metode: Hewan coba adalah Rattus norvegicus galur Sprague Dawley, 2-3 bulan, berat 150-200
gram yang telah diaklimatisasi dan dibagi secara random ke dalam 2 kelompok, kelompok I
diberikan aquades kelompok II diberikan jus pinang muda dosis 10 gr/KgBB. Perlakuan
diberikan sekali sehari selama 45 hari . Pemeriksaan dilakukan dengan melihat jumlah sel pada
cerebrum yang telah dicat Hematoxillin Eosin, kemudian diamati menggunakan mikroskop
cahaya dengan perbesaran 400 kali dalam 15 lapangan pandang dengan menghitung jumlah sel
tanpa membedakan jenis sel.
Hasil: Hasil pemeriksaan histopatologi menunjukkan penurunan jumlah sel yang bermakna pada
cerebrum tikus yang diberikan jus pinang 10 gr/KgBB dibandingkan kelompok kontrol.
Kesimpulan: Pemberian jus pinang muda (Areca catechu L.) 10gr/KgBB dapat menurunkan
jumlah sel pada cerebrum tikus putih (Rattus novregicus).
