Global Citizenship Lesson Plan- 4th Grade

Objectives: Students will describe the similarities and differences of going to school in
two different countries.

Materials: Videos, Education Around the World handout, comparing classrooms venn
diagram

Opening: Students watch a short video Time for School about what the school day is
like for students in different countries. Discuss how the short clip of students compares
to how we go to school in the US.

Body: Students will watch a video of “A Look Inside the Japanese Classroom” about
how a six year old boy in Japan experiences his first day of school. There will be a
discussion about what they saw in the video and then they will complete the first
column of the “Education Around the World’ handout.
Students will watch a video “A Look at the Kenyan Classroom” about a young boy
who goes to school in Kenya. Students will complete the second column on the
“Education Around the World” handout.

Closing:
There will be a whole class discussion on the similarities and differences of education
in two different countries. Students will then talk with their table group about what
they noticed in the videos.

Assessment: Students will complete the “Comparing Classrooms Venn Diagram.”


This will show whether or not the students have met the objective.
