ASSIGNMENT NO. 4 WEAVING THROUGH THE ETHICAL MINEFIELD

Today's Lawyer: Making a Difference in the New Global Economy.

This reaction paper is on the video entitled, “Ethical Minefield: Navigating Business and Legal
Ethicism in the New Global Economy.” Everyone has become so engrossed by money itself that
we have lost touch with how to stay ethically oriented with the world. In the Philippines, as I
observed, multi-national companies disregard ethics. I studied business administration back in
college. In our subject business ethics we were taught to be a good employee or employer, as the
case maybe. But when you think of these companies whether they be big or small, they only
think of themselves to earn profit even if their employees or consumer suffer.

We all know “Padrino System” works, if you have connections it will help your business
progress and to have a smooth sailing way to success. However, it is all wrong. Economically, it
is obvious. If what we’re supposed to get, may it be goods, are being taken away from us, it only
makes sense that we will be lacking of it. Hence, if we’re given insufficient employers just
because they have backers, we will be lacking the right kind of leaders, officers or employers.
It’s just sad to see that some companies in our time now are more driven to make profits and they
don’t even realize the effect of such to other people, specially their employees and consumers.
They all have to realize the effect of immoral acts.

I believe that lawyers will make difference, not all people in the field are corrupt and immoral.
Lawyers will be the change of this non-sense acts that destroys the reputation of a person or an
entity. As a future lawyer, I know there will be ways to change this system. We have to start
small, through that we can make a bigger difference in this society. Ethics is about the well-being
of people, and so it is ethics that should be the end while money is merely one kind of means. We
must serve one another in peace and unity so that we may be able to achieve what is the right
thing to do.
