Philosophy of Education Statement

“Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand.”

--Chinese Proverb
This quote describes my educational philosophy because it highlights that content is best

learned and grasped by the learner through first hand experiences and hands-on

experiences.

I believe the role of an educator is to nurture and guide children as well as their

families. As the educator gets to know a child and the family positive, reciprocal

relationships need to be built so that we are able to support the child reach their full

potential and the families reach their goals and dreams. When a child and family feel

safe, secure and heard is when they will open up and we are able to nurture and guide

children and families because we are able to identify their strengths and areas of

improvement.

I believe a child’s family is the first and most important teacher in a child’s life.

The family lays the foundation for all areas of development in a child’s learning process.

As educators we need to ensure families have the right tools to support their child and let

them know we are a resource they can use. Families are also a resource for us who better

than them when it comes to their child.

I believe play is a valuable tool for learning and children learn best from direct

and hands-on experiences. Children learn best when engaged and are involved. Play is

just that children participating in things of interest to them as they explore their

environment. Topics of interest to children captures a children’s attention engaging them

to want to actively participate in whatever it is.
