PURPOSE OF THIS ASSIGNMENT BRIEF


This unit enables the learner’s continued development of the specific skills required by a solo performer.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On completion of this unit a learner should:
● Know how to choose appropriate pieces for an extended programme of music
● Be able to perform an extended programme of music to an audience
● Know the processes required in preparation for the performance of an extended programme of music.
SCENARIO
You have found out about an important international music festival you can perform in. It will give you valuable performing
experience, exposure to a wider audience and it would look great on your UCAS reference and CV as you wish to go to a top
university. However the places are limited and it’s very competitive so you need to prepare a good audition recording and
prepare to play a recital of 20-30 minutes in front of an invited audience. As part of the festival, you have been asked to take part
in a discussion group following your performance. You must prepare a report in which you describe, explain and evaluate what
you did in the preparation of your programme.

ASSIGNMENTS TIMESCALE GRADING CRITERIA

Assignment 1: Audition tape: You have been invited to submit an audition


recording to take part in a top international music festival. The tape should include
between 30 and 60 seconds from each piece you will perform. The learner is to 03 weeks P1, M1, D1
choose appropriate and effective material for the performance.
Evidence: Video and written evidence.
A video audition tape, concert programme with notes on each piece. A written or
oral justification of your choices eg a project report.
Assignment 2: My Concert Performance: You have been successful in your
audition for the festival. Using the musical material you submitted for your
audition, you have to perform a programme of music of at least 3 contrasting 05 weeks P2, M2, D2
pieces of music to an audience in a lasting between 20 and 30 minutes.

Assignment 3: The Performance – How it Went: As part of the festival, you
have been asked to take part in a discussion group following your performance.
You must prepare a report in which you describe, explain and evaluate what you
did in the preparation of your programme.
Evidence – A written report or oral presentation eg a project 02 weeks P3, M3, D3
report. Video recording of presentation supported by tutor/teacher observation
records and student practice diary. Evidence may be submitted in written form or
through an oral presentation. A presentation could be given ‘live’ or could be
recorded on video. Practise records could be written as a BLOG or recorded kept
in the form of a VLOG.

Live performance:
There is no substitute for watching live musicians performing. Watch as much live music as you can.
