Testing the Hydraulic Systems . 1
. Hydraulic System Tro~ble-Shooting 14
Refer to the section of this manual that pertains to the loader being serviced for an
operational description of that particular loader's hydraulic system.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
The following safety precautions should always be followed when testing or trouble-shooting a
loader hydraulic system.
1. Before attempting to disconnect a hose or tube assembly to provide a connection for testing
equipment, make sure that boom is lowered with the bucket on the ground and relieve the pressure
from the system by moving the control levers back and forth several times.
2. Do not attempt to tighten a connection while the tractor engine is running, while the system
is under pressure, or when the boom is raised.
4. Do not allow anyone to walk or stand in front of a disconnected hose or tube assembly.
Hydraulic systems are basically similar. They all contain a pump to produce flow against a
back-pressure, they contain valves that direct and control the flow of oil while also limiting the
maximum pressure within the system or circuit, and they contain hydraulic cylinders which con-
vert hydraulic energy to mechanical force. Hydraulic systems require a reservoir to provide a
supply of oil to the pump, along with hose and tube assemblies to provide a path for the oil to fol-
low between the major components. A filter is most always incorporated into an hydraulic system
to keep the oil clean, protecting the system's components from damage. A by-pass valve is usu-
ally incorporated into the filter to allow the oil to by-pass the filter element if it becomes clogged.
Always check the loader hydraulic reservoir for correct oil level and ensure that the oil is of the
recommended type before attempting to test the system.

The pump drive mechanism used with the loaders will vary according to the tractor
model (and in some instances, the tractor serial number) to which the loader is
attached.
Information within this part allows comparison of the pump drives for a specific
model of loader when installed on the different tractor models. Information is also
included to allow for comparison between the similar pump drives for the different
loader models when installed on a specific tractor model. (i. e.: The pump drive
assembly for the MF 99 Loader, when installed on the MF 35 Agricultural Tractor
with gas engine, may be compared to the drive for the MF 99 Loader, when installed
on the MF 35 with Perkins Diesel. The pump drives for the MF 99 Loader used on
the TO, FE and MF 35 Agricultural Tractors may be compared to the pump drives
for the MF 100 and MF 200 Loaders used on these same tractor models. )
Instructions pertaining to the removal and installation of the pump drives may be
obtained by referring to the section within this group that concerns the particular
loader in question and the part that pertains to the hydraulic system of that loader.

The instructions for servicing are written while assuming the component has been
removed from the Loader.
Hydraulic components are precision-made and care must be taken to prevent dam-
age or foreign material from entering the component. Good work practices, cleanli-
ness, and caution are necessary to prevent damage to the cylinder and its components.

This Part provides specifications and data pertaining to the MF 200 Industrial
Loader hydraulic system and its components.
System description is included within this Part, along with removal and reinstalla-
tion procedures for the hydraulic components. Actual servicing (disassembly, etc.)
of a particular hydraulic component may be referred to Group VII, Section A and the
appropriate Part that pertains to the component.
Proper testing of the hydraulic system .prior to attempting servicing will often times
aid in speedier and more accurate "Trouble-Shooting" of the system. Refer to Group
VII, Section A, Part 1 for "Trouble-Shooting" and testing procedures.
Good work practices, cleanliness and caution is necessary when working on, or
around, hydraulically actuated equipment. Hydraulic components are precision made
and dirt, or other foreign materials, entering the system can cause damage to the
components. Serious injury to personnel can be the result ofamoment's carelessness
or allowing anyone (who is not familiar with "the system and its controls) to operate
the controls during the servicing procedures. Safety precautions should always be
observed when servicing the Loader.
Directions given within this Part are as they would appear to the operator while
seated at the Loader controls, unless otherwise specified.
