Summary of changes:
The purpose of this chapter is to give a brief summary on the SW delivery content.
Upgrading existing FIU19E with Ethernet plug-in unit (T55320.01) in the field
Purchase SW upgrade license: SWRU, FIU19E 3.2, Major (1 NE) (S88600.21)
Download FIU19E 3.2 SW from NOLS
Download FIU19E 3.2 SW package to FIU19E and activate it
Purchase FIU19E Ethernet QoS license key (L55341.07) and activate it.
FIU19E 3.2 corrects the following problems existing in the previous release:
When network equipment has a problem which is severe enough to cause connecting AIS forward, there
will be at least two alarms in the network: 1. the original alarm event (e.g. LOS) in an interface. 2. AIS in
the signal termination point(s). FIU19E 3.2 is conformant with this behavior.
The previous implementation (FIU19E 3.0 and earlier) indicated AIS when there was an AIS signal
connected through the equipment even if there was nothing wrong with the equipment itself. This is
considered misleading. This kind of behavior potentially also generates an excessive number of alarms
in the network, flooding the DCN channel and potentially hiding real problems in the intermediate
network elements. This overlapping alarm functionality was removed as part of Alarm rationalization in
FIU19E 3.1.
Because some users have implemented their management system to utilize this E1 line AIS functionality,
in FIU19E 3.2 it is possible for user to select, if this AIS functionality is enabled or not.
Changing the Ethernet switching mode from “Channel Separation” to “Shared Capacity”, Eth2 port did
not work in remote configuration properly.
This problem concerns SNMP MIB interface between FIU19E 3.1 and NetViewer. On the SNMP MIB of
the equipment, the SDN (System Distinguished Name) generated alarms related to the Ethernet plug-in
unit that were not correct. Alarms present on the SNMP MIB were not able to be recognized and thus
handled by the SNMP manager. NetViewer was not able to manage Ethernet PIU.
1.3.4 FIU19E node time not properly updated with NTP (NA04531881)
Node time was not updating properly with the Network Timing Protocol (NTP).
Ethernet Full Switch (Available in Classic Mode and New QoS Mode)
EPIU operates as a four port L2 Ethernet Switch (The ports being Eth1, Eth2, FB1 (SIO1) and
FB2 (SIO2))
Traffic from any input ports can be forwarded to any output port
Ethernet interface unit supports
2048 MAC addresses in full switch mode
1024 MAC addresses in QoS mode
In Classic Mode packet forwarding is based on MAC addresses
In QoS Mode packet forwarding is based on MAC addresses and VLAN IDs.
The highest priority queue is served first, then second, etc... If new packets arrive in the higher priority
queue, they will be served first and then lower priority queues in priority order.

1.4.2 Improved Performance Monitoring data collection with NetAct (NE3S PM)
This feature enables performance data collection in FIU19E 3.2 and automatic reporting towards NetAct
in 15 minutes and 24 hours periods according G.826 standard. This interface is now implemented
according to NE3S Performance Management collection principle and is more efficient than the PM data
collection counter by counter.
2. IMPACTS ON CUSTOMER
FIU19E 3.2 QoS feature enables packet traffic prioritization per VLAN classification methods in WCDMA
RAN Dual Iub and IP Iub network environment.
Network Management of FIU19E products will improve as performance data is available from the
network according G.826 standard.
End user real time applications such as voice or video streaming applications, data packets transmitted
through FIU19E 3.2 and EPIU equipment can be tagged and prioritized with QoS feature ensuring the
continuous service and customer experience in congestion situations in network.
Operator can upgrade existing FIU19E units having Ethernet Plug-in unit in the network with FIU19E 3.2
SW and purchase new QoS license. With this way operator can utilize installed base and save CAPEX
when transforming TDM based networks to hybrid network.
Operator can design network capacity to meet real time traffic requirements and allow non-critical traffic
flexible rerouting and shaping in network by QoS VLAN tagging and prioritization. This saves operator
CAPEX.
QoS feature can to be enabled in SW by purchasing QoS license or purchasing Ethernet Plug-in unit
with factory installed QoS license.
Software upgrade to Nokia Siemens Networks FIU 19E 3.2 level is done according to FIU 19E software
downloading instruction “Nokia Siemens Networks FlexiHopper (Plus) Product Documentation”, part
“Installing and Upgrading software for Nokia Siemens Networks FlexiHopper (Plus)”. This is available in
NOLS (Nokia Online Services).
This software is available in October 2009 in NOLS -> Care -> Software delivery

1. New FIU19E 3.2 release upgrade requires unit software and FPGA code upgrade. New FPGA code
is required for Ethernet plug-in unit QoS functionality. Please follow below step by step instructions
for upgrading FIU19E.Download the new FIU19E unit software (P55306.01--D0)
• Wait for the file download the node to be finalized
• If the FPGA code download is started earlier, there is given an unnecessary error message,
which can be ignored
2. Download the new FPGA code (P55330.01--B0)
3. Activate the new SW code with the reset and wait for the recovery
• During the reset and recovery the whole FIU19E node traffic will be disturbed
4. Activate the new FPGA code with the reset
• During the reset and recovery the Ethernet traffic will be disturbed
Please notice that the EPIU (Ethernet Plug-In Unit) can be upgraded to Release 3.2 level (FPGA code
P55330.01—B0) only if there is the EPIU installed in FIU19E during upgrade. When the EPIU is installed
later to FIU19E with release 3.2 installed, it is mandatory that the new EPIU FPGA code is downloaded
and activated to FIU19E according steps 2. and 4. above.
This report contains information about FIU19E 3.2 release compatibility with interfacing network element
releases.
