 One in every three Filipinos has a
mental health problem, a local
psychiatrist told the National
Academy of Science and Technology
(NAST), as she called for more
vigorous government effort in making
mental health care available all over
the country.
 University of the Philippines College of
Medicine professor emeritus Dr.
Lourdes Ignacio, who was conferred
the Geminiano T. de Ocampo
Visionary Award for Medical Research
2017 by the NAST yesterday, said that
with the country’s population hitting
the 110 million mark, the number of
Filipinos who have mental problems
could reach 28.48 million.
 Ignacio said she made this estimate
from a population survey conducted
by the UP-Philippine General Hospital
in Western Visayas more than 20
years ago, which found 36 percent of
the population to have mental health
problems.

problema sa kalusugan ng isip, sinabi ng
isang lokal na psychiatrist sa National

(NAST), habang siya ay nanawagan para
sa mas malusog na pagsisikap ng
pamahalaan sa paggawa ng pangangalaga
sa kalusugan ng isip na magagamit sa
buong bansa.
 Ang propesor ng University of the
Philippines College of Medicine na si
emeritus Dr. Lourdes Ignacio, na
nagkaloob ng Geminiano T. de Ocampo
Visionary Award para sa Medical
Research 2017 ng NAST kahapon, ay
nagsabi na sa populasyon ng bansa na
naabot ang 110 milyong marka, ang
bilang ng mga Pilipino na may problema
sa isip ay maaaring umabot sa 28.48
milyon.
 Sinabi ni Ignacio na ginawa niya ang
pagtatantya mula sa isang survey ng
populasyon na isinagawa ng UP-
Philippine General Hospital sa Kanlurang
Visayas mahigit 20 taon na ang
nakararaan, na natagpuan ang 36
porsiyento ng populasyon na magkaroon
ng mga problema sa kalusugan ng isip.
