Agro de Coconut Oil: So Fresh from COCOlocoNUTS!

Introduction

Coconut emerges as part of the highest production of fruit crops in

SOCCSKSSARGEN Region, having Cotabato Province as the leading producer in year
2019 which attributed 1.16 million metric tons that is equivalent to 50 percent of the total.
Tall Coconuts were investigated as one of the top growing variety of coconut in terms of
its production and trade compared to the dwarf cultivars. All over the years, coconut
industry plays a significant role in molding progress not in only in Region 12 but
throughout the country. It becomes the major source of income by way of generation
employment with numerous agricultural development. (Agribusiness, 2020)

Filipinos recognize this fruit as the “Tree of Life” owing the fact that it can be utilized
in many ways. Producing variety of products and by- products made from the tree such
as juice, husk, shell, charcoal, wooden crafts, copras, and organic coconut oil.

Greenville Agro Corporation’s Virgin Coconut oil here in the Philippines has been
considered as the greatest contributor in the export-import industry which spans for more
than 30 years and still counting. GAC’s plantation can be found in Cotabato Province at

as effective antioxidant, moisturizer, removes dead cell, and strengthens tissue. It relieve
rashes and other skin problems like eczema. Aside from its great effects for the skin, it
can also heal internally as it can reduce risks of heart attacks, hypothyroidism, helps
weight loss, and even aids in digestion.

Due to its availability, accessibility, and beneficiaries, GAC’s coconut oil is booming
and trending for decades in green lifestyle industry. Having its own organic, healthy, and
multifunctional items, a lot of people prefers to use and apply these kind of products.

i. The Product Life Cycle

a. Field Selection
The proper identification for the coconut plantation should be identified to ensure
long term success of production of the coconut crops. There are set of actions
implemented and need to be considered for attaining the standards in order to proceed
to plantation. It includes soil conditions so that there is a sufficient room for proper root
development as well as enough nutrient content for growth development. Consistent
availability of water source is also important, palms tend to require huge quantity of water
for its sustainable development.

b. Plantation
During rainy season is the best time to transplant the seedlings. Therefore, it
should be in accordance to the seasonal changes of the area. There are images identified
to show the spots where specific palms are to be placed. The set up are fixed with equal
length in corners of each square, keeping the same distance between rows. Palms are
then planted at 8- 10 months old, however it is still possible to plant 6- month old seedlings
as long as the timing of planting warrants it.
c. Maintenance

In this stage, it includes application of organic fertilizers, insecticides, and regular

manuring to achieve higher productivity. Different forms of manures such as bone meal,
compost, fish mean, blood meal, etc. could be utilize for this purpose. Irrigation of the
palms is also one of the major component especially during summer months because low
in soil moisture can limit the coconut production and higher chance of harvesting ill-fruit
products.

d. Harvesting

Farmers usually yield two to three bunches of coconuts from each palm tree to
economise, which occurs every harvest cycle of the company. They practice conventional
method of harvesting by well- trained, experienced, and skilfull climbers. Other than that,
they also use knife sickle (attached to the long bamboo poles) for picking nuts. Greenville

e. Processing
The type method they use for extracting the pure virgin coconut oil does not
undergo artificial filtering or chemicals. It is through cold compression of dried coconut
kernel, commonly known as copra. As the term suggests, is made without any heat. The
coconut meat collected is scooped and pressed in order to have pure extract. After cold
compression process, the products are then packaged in different PET bottles, HDPE
bottles, and in glass bottles.

f. Marketing

And both are practical to drink because it does not contain peroxide and low in FFA scores

products.

assured if this product is feasible, reasonable and worth of exchanging their resources
for attaining VOC.

• It is known to Promote Smooth & Supple Skin
• It has Delicious Coconut Flavor and Aroma

the Organic Trade Association for its safety and its international standards
• It has the consumer price of 425 Philippine pesos per 250 mL
 • It is available in different PET Bottles, HDPE Bottles, Glass Bottles, and in bulk.

Disadvantages

• No relevant information found on its shelf-life longevity

• No certainty of being sediment-free or has antiseptic handling

In majority of its advantages, it is proven that this product is feasible and can be a
worthy rival product of both domestic and international companies, also competing for be
the standard of quality equitation. As of the moment, the market for virgin coconut oil
alone projects to be worth 4.5 billion dollars by 2024. And Greenville-Agro Corporation
are in the Top 7 of the leading exporters of this product in the Philippines, for the product
has the scientific background and fixable market and consumer price to be able to be
worth of its recognition. Regarding of its disadvantages, it can be substantiated by the
number of its advantages it has to offer and achieves the public trust about the complete
state of the product for consumption of the consumers. Generally, Greenville Agro
Corporation’s Virgin Coconut Oil is something people will not be doubting regardless of
its few deficiencies on completely pertaining the details of the product as it is certified to
