LEARNING ACTIVITY # 1 (CHAPTER 2)

Educational Foundations
1. How does history shape the educational system of any country?

We learn a lot from our past that we use in the present. As in education, we can use
the basic teaching methods used in the past so that we can properly adapt to the needs of the
present time, the methods that have been effective and avoid those that did not help in the
system of learning in the past. Just like here in the Philippines, the educational system of the
pre Spanish Filipinos, the Roman Catholic Church during the Spanish period and the
Protestant Churches during the American Commonwealth, have contributed to the
development of Philippine education. The Americans also established the public school
system in the country. There are many other events in history that shaped our education
system even to this day. Teachers need to learn, reflect. And unlearn from history. They
should develop critical minds and historical literacy to make education more relevant and
responsive to the needs of the people and communities.

2. What are the significant contributions of the following fields to education?

a. Philosophy
b. Sociology
c. Anthropology
d. Psychology

Teachers should learn how to analyze and interpret different educational

philosophies. Educational philosophies serve as a guide in making any curricular and
instructional decisions. They also influence the beliefs and behaviors of teachers as well as
shape their personalities, teaching styles, and values. Teachers also need to understand the
different educational theories and apply and interpret them in teaching. These theories guide
teachers in engaging students in meaningful learning. They provide alternative solutions and
explanations to educational issues and concerns. In the same manner, teachers need to be
updated with latest researches in the field of education and from allied areas, such as
psychology, neurology, sociology, and others that have influence in the field of education to
help them further understand the learning process and respond to the needs of learners.

3. Do you think the information you learned from your professional education courses are
enough to develop your knowledge and appreciation of education as a field of study?
Explain your answer.
For me yes because this professional education courses have introduced me to the
problems I will encounter as a teacher and how I will deal to those with determination for the
sake of children who can change, motivate, and the dreams that I believe will be our future,
and this professional education courses stick in my mind that as a teachers we must
understand that education is said to be one of the pillars of economic progress. So it’s really
important that we must take our profession seriously. This is based on the fact that education
contributes a lot to the economic growth of any country through the development of human
resources, ideas, and technology. In the Philippines, education is seen as an important tool for
alleviating poverty and in pushing for economic progress and human resources development.
So it’s really important to take this profession seriously because the future is In our hands
will be the future of our world because what we teach our students is what they will take into
their future and to the future of our world
