1) A 40 kg, 225 W Battle Droid (The Force is strong with these ones) can charge at an enemy from rest to

a speed of 20 km/h in 3 s. What is the efficiency of the droid?

2) Indiana Jones discovers a skeleton lying in the catacombs of the building, and is wondering how old
this person might be.
a) Indy can use carbon-14 to date the age of the skeleton, as it has a half life of about 5700 years.
If the body originally contained 75g of carbon-l4, how long will it take for there to only be 30g of
carbon-14 left?
b) Assuming the body is 950 years old, how much carbon-14 will remain (assuming the starting
amount is still 75g)?

3) Plutonium-239 is used in the manufacture of nuclear

weapons. During fission one atom of Pu-239 is
impacted by a neutron, which breaks it down into
Molybdenum-100 and Tellurium-134, plus 6 more
neutrons, which continue in a chain reaction.
Calculate the amount of energy released by the fission
of one Pu-239 atom.

atomic masses:
Pu-239 = 239.0522 u
Mo-100 = 99.9075 u
Te-134 = 133.9114 u
Neutron = 1.008665 u
